Title: Serious Debates on Stupid Topics - League vs AFL
Post by: jamonwindeyer on March 09, 2017, 06:52:13 pm
And thus, even knowing he was outnumbered, Jamon invited the wrath of the Victorians, and their fury was a legend to behold...

For Round 2 of Serious Debates on Stupid Topics - We're talking footy. Well, we're talking footy and some other weird game with bouncing and stuff. I dunno ;)

So is League the Legend? Or is it AFL all the way?

PS - I've added Union to the poll, out of pity more than anything ;) and based on Sine's recommendation, added Soccer (I'm not calling it football in a thread about football codes, that's a fight for another day ;) )

PPS - If you haven't already, please come tell these fools that sauce belongs in the pantry.

PPPS - This is a serious debate on a stupid topic, feel free to let loose - Some tongue in cheek banter is definitely okay here! ;D

Union is the far superior code, will give reasons later but chemistry homework is too important  :'(

I'll just say for now, Shaun Johnson is the only good thing that's come out of league.

(side note: AFL isn't even worth talking about.)

Well this is certainly going to create a split in NSW/VIC :P

(I think everyone already knows my answer, so I won't bother  8) )

I have my views regarding other sports, but in the interest of respect for others' personal preference, I will keep them to myself :)

im a big fan of most sports, but i much prefer rugby union/afl/soccer to league. league players are pretty fit and you see some cool plays, but i personally find it really boring watching  tackle > tackle > tackle > tackle > kick,   tackle > tackle > tackle> tackle > kick,  for 40 minutes. with once every 10 minutes someone finds a gap or someone catches a kick. on the other hand i do love watching union, seeing 30 phase defending and people jumping over the top and pushing through tackles and shit makes it really interesting. plus the viability of kicks and having proper lineups really makes it alot more fun to watch in my opinion. in terms of viewer enjoyment for me it would have to be soccer > union > afl > league. also the fact that union is properly international with things like the rugby world cup etc. make it super cool for me.
(im victorian btw and grew up here if that influences anything)

See this is really interesting, because most games of soccer bore me to absolute tears!! Perhaps because I didn't really get it growing up, my family are all League mad ;)

You should watch the rematch of Barca vs PSG that was on today, pretty entertaining game. In general soccer is only fun to watch if there are 2 good teams versing each other or if a team is playing for something (ie premiership).

For league, in my opinion, there isn't much of a game plan/tactics in comparison to union. Most of the time you just see them pass it to their big boys to run it straight and then when they're near the try line they pass it wide.

Disclaimer: I usually just watch the league World Cup or state of origin in terms of league.
