Title: Red Dog Australian English Language portrayal
Post by: dan0038 on July 12, 2017, 04:16:01 pm
Hey guys, unit 4 started and as part of my class discussion, we had to watch 'RED DOG' and analyse the language in it. As this is a rather particular new topic, I have no clue on the metalanguage and what to analyse for. Can anyone that has watched the movie please help? (examples from the movie would be nice because I watched the movie and have no clue on generalisations and stereotypes in the movie). Thank you for helping a loss person out.

I haven't watched this movie, but when you are looking at Australian English some things you might want to consider are:
 - Are there examples of Australian slang?
             - "-o" ending           ML: affixation, morphology
             -"mate" "g'day"       ML: lexicology
             -idioms
-Do the voices "sound" Australian?
            -(broad, general, cultivated) accent
            -high rising terminal
            -simplification of sounds and words

This is definitely NOT a definitive list, but should give you a start
