Title: Majors, performances, projects
Post by: JeffChiang on July 17, 2017, 04:24:36 pm
With around a month left for most items,
How is everyone going with their majors/performances/projects?
How close are you to finishing?
How are you going to juggle it with the trials?
Just a reminder on the dates in case you forgot and do an all nighter: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/key_dates/hsc-practical-performance-dates-2017.html

I have an Industrial Technology Multimedia major work to finish and it's due in the middle of my trials. Really need to lift my game and finish it by this week or so otherwise I will be juggling exam preparation and major work which is not good at all. I have probably finished 80% of my entire major but it's hard to tell as I still have hard bits left.

Good luck and hope you don't pull all nighters.

Hey there Jeff,

Sounds like you are pretty on track!! thats really good, in my year, I had to do my performances and finish my composition for Music and Music extension - obviously I couldn't get my time management together and with upcoming trials that I knew I was not 100% with, I decided to drop all Music units which imo worked really well for me as it was just less stress in terms of the content I needed to cover before trials. Do you mind telling us a little bit about your Industrial Tech major work? It sounds really cool!!

Hope you can get it all together on time! But it sounds like you don't need to sweat it :D

Good luck for trials!! :)

I've pretty much finished my art BOW, only issue is that the markers are coming to the school so they are checking VAPDs!! Mine is nearly full though so should be alright but always a bit iffy about markers coming to our school. Were not super duper private but not public either and our teacher said they might judge us based on the fact our school is a bit private. hope not though haha

Working on my Textiles & Design Major, which is due some time during trials.
My teacher always says it's bigger than Ben Hur.
My folio is almost finished, so that's a relief, but Miss is making us hand it in by the end of the week, so it can be packed away safely before they get posted to the marking centre.
Hopefully, I'll get it done on time.... :-\

I've completed my major work so if you'll bear with me if dates have changed :)

My DT major work was due more so at the back end of my trials (ie the second week of trials, when exams are still on and that) and can I recommend to you that you have your major works finished either before the trials, or if that is not a possibility (my trials started the 31st but others won't be so lucky ;D) then use the rest of the day, while you are already at school to get some major headway on it.

Personally, I did nothing during the trials and had it kind of finished beforehand but I printed off my major work folio about at Officeworks about an hour before it was due. Actually, I was still making choices about what paper and binding I wanted an hour before, it was in reality much less :D
Pro Tip: Don't procrastinate or just go home like I did; stay after the English Paper 1 or whatever and get it done with at least a day spare. Honestly it will save you so much stress and worry - which is exactly what you do not need in the trials. (Quite honestly, I didn't feel stressed because I didn't realise it was by 3pm or so, I thought it was at 4pm which would have given me plenty of time)

Hope this helps :)

When is yours due? What do you still need to do? For history extension my draft was due at the start of last term and the final project was due close to the end of the term. It was such a relief to hand it in. It was definitely a lot of work but I really loved my topic. What is your question?

I still have music and i'm doing four performances on clarinet. So, Iv'e got trials for that on the 17th of August and then the music exam is sometime in September. I still need to practise with my piano accompaniment and Iv'e practised my pieces heaps but they still need a lot more practise before the HSC.

I have two majors (society & culture and visual arts). My PIP is due on July 31 (same day as my English Paper 1) and most of my BOW and my VAPD has to be done by this Friday. I've been spending so much time on them, that I keep neglecting my studies for trials  :'(. To everyone with TWO majors, how's everyone going with their time management?

I have a peice done for my drama IP, but its not where I want it to be just yet. I'm portraying the character of death which is quite challenging and not sure how to use my movments and space, but hopefully I can really tackle that and get it good in the next 3 weeks before trial night, and of course HSC.
I'm so glad all my theory based trials finished last term and that I dropped ITM (I would not have been able to finish that project in time) so I can solidly focus on finishing drama, but still, a month.... Arrrgh!

I still have my extension project due too, it was proabaly a huge weight lifted off for you to hand it in at the end of last term! I think I'm somewhat going to miss working on my project, the essay only became more interesting the more work I did on it, my question is 'To what extent was the Japanese human experimentation prior to and hduring WWII justified'
What was your question?

GOOD LUCK! If you ever want to discuss anything, or want a bit of help solidifying your final project, always feel free to pop over to the HSC Drama board! Sadly neglected (but not for long if I have any say in it! ;) )

It was so good to hand in! Although, i'm kinda stressing over my mark because this part is worth 50% of our internal mark (the proposal was 10% and draft 20%).
I actually really miss it -I would have periods where I did hardly anything and then especially just before the draft was due i'd be working on it every day. Your question sounds so interesting! That would be really cool to research! I ended up changing my question three times! My question was 'Assess the Goldhagen v. Browning debate, focussing on why the German people of police battalion 101 were involved in the murder of the Jewish people.' So basically, I looked at the context, methodology and interpretations of two conflicting historians and why they believed that these men were involved.
How's your major going? Hope you do well. :)

Our class only has five people in it but our mark is worth 60% of the internal so I'm stressing too! It is all I have wanted to work on the last couple of weeks so my other subects have suffered a little... eeeek... but I already miss it and it's not even handed in!
Your question sounds sooooo interesting as well, anything about World War Two I just soak up, it is such an interesting time!
I am really proud of my project, and that is what is truly important to me! Good luck with your results, I'm sure you will get the results you are hoping for! :)

I'm working on contemporary China and Mao Zedong - Mao Zedong: Reformer, Tyrant or both?
and my you have double majors to do! Its great to have all these passions honestly cause not going to lie, majors are actually so fun despite the stress - Its literally like your child.

So true So true! I was editing my essay when I got inspired and found another essay to write on and it was perfect - Slightly crazy but was actually contemplating to write that essay after HSC for entertainment

What!! I ended up handing in like 3-4 drafts for my teacher to give feedback. Our draft that was due last term was worth 20%. How much is your major worth then? Good luck for your major-your question sounds really interesting although I don't know a lot about Chinese history.
Double majors is great but its heaps of work. My clarinet teacher expects me to practice an hour a day (for the week). I love my majors so much though. :)
