Title: Sample essays for Tracks/ Into The Wild?
Post by: ooft on August 17, 2017, 10:29:48 pm
Haven't really seen many people who are doing this comparison and i'm really struggling to find any material whatsoever concerning either of the texts which is extremely problematic considering i have the sac coming up. Any thing of use (primary sample essays or paragraphs) would be much appreciated.

Hey!

I'm also studying these texts, so you're not alone. I've purchased the Insight study resource, which compares both texts. This is helpful, in the sense that it clearly breaks down similarities and differences. But the sample essays provided are really quite poor.

If you can't purchase this, I'd recommend you read some interviews with either Sean Penn or Robyn Davidson. While these will not give you writing samples to work off, they shed light on certain character insights and specific textual evidence. I can attach the links to these if you'd like.

Another possibility, if your school is signed up, is Edrolo. Although the samples are not great, the tutorials provide a starting point.

Hope this helps :)

I'm studying the texts too and I'll definitely ditto clarke's advice to look up interviews with Penn and Davidson - they provide some pretty insightful stuff to the meaning of their works and how they've been constructed, and will ultimately help with refining your interpretations of the texts. If you're looking specifically for sample essays though, have you tried asking your teacher for one, or just a sample paragraph? I'm sure if you ask nicely enough, they'll be more than happy to source or write one for you since it will help illustrate what they're looking for in the SAC.
