Title: Jess who's here!!!
Post by: Natasha.97 on August 23, 2017, 05:27:16 pm
Hey!

Facts about me:
-   Left-handed (pen/pencil smudgers unite!)
-   Can do the “Cadbury eyebrows”
-   Went from 13 units to 10 (Last unit was dropped the day before I had Trials!)
-   Used to have a lot of extracurricular activities: tennis, badminton, table-tennis, squash, swimming, basketball, ballet (not all at once!) in primary
-       Wake up at 6 most days of the week

Journey:
-   Definitely treated Year 11 much more seriously than required
-   Burnt out before half-yearlies
-   Pretty disappointed with my assessment results that I’ve received so far :(

Subjects in order of preference:
Biology/Chemistry, Maths, English, Economics

As you can probably tell from my signature, I would like to become a dietician :)

Not sure how frequently I will update this thread :3

Edit: Removed old username :P

This is just ridiculous.

What made you decide to drop down to 10 units, Jess? :)

Woo-hoo!

To be precise, 5:58 am ;) Gotta fit in an early workout otherwise I fall asleep in class :P

13 → 11: Had 13 units in Year 11, and decided that the workload too much (Dropped Modern History: sorry Susie :P)

11 → 10: Always kept Maths Ext 1 because I wanted a unit to fall back on, but I realised that I was spending a disproportionate amount of time on it compared to my other subjects. For the amount of time I spent on it, I wasn't getting anything out of it (marks were pretty dismal) so decided to drop it (what also helped in deciding was that in Trials, I had Maths 3U in the afternoon, Biology and Economics the next day - hightailed out of there as fast as I could!)

how... do you.... wake up at 6... most mornings...

I try to sleep at around 9:30-10. By the time I'm actually asleep (and not pretending to sleep), it's usually 10:30 :P

Had a meeting with my mentor: She spent quite some time talking to me about not wallowing about poor performance in Trials which helped a lot :) Going to try and put those marks in the past and look ahead to the final exams in Oct ^.^

25/08/17

Had a 4-subject day today :) One period is 1hr and 5 mins long (technically 1 hour when accounting for moving in between classes o.0)
1. Biology: Started the 2nd last topic for "Search for Better Health"!
2. Chemistry: Did a practical and built molecular models
3. Economics: Went through some of the content for Topic 4, and did research on recent trends
4. Maths: Finished the content before Trials, so just doing past-papers in class. Going to try and complete 2 HSC papers each week leading up to the exam!

Spent the whole day at the Open Days for both UTS and USyd! It was basically a back-and-forth day between the two universities :B My predominant focus was USyd though, and hearing a talk on Nutrition and Dietetics cemented my aspiration to become a dietician :D I was also approached by 2 peeps from AN :') Also got a few freebies as recommended (water bottle, t-shirt, and pens) :P

Can't seem to get rid of -->[/list]

I like the whole "Hogwarts" feel of USyd; the architecture is just BEAUTIFUL. I see the appeal of UTS though; the modern design of the buildings (esp. building 8!) is really nice to look at :P All the people I've met at both universities have been very friendly and helpful when I needed to locate a certain room/hall!

Had 3 subjects today :D Discussions about giving presents occurred in Biology and Economics~

Biology: Started the last topic! So excited to finish the content :) the last 15 minutes drifted off into random chit-chat We also have a meme board which is pretty much filled up!
Chemistry: Did a practical to test for proteins and polypeptides, watched a video on ninhydrin test (we don't have that substance in school), and some notes
Economics: Finished content! A classmate also scared our teacher by hiding under her desk and jumping out at her

unrelated rant
The construction for the Light Rail occurs at the most awkward times (10:30pm to 3 am)
Technically, the rails in front of where I live are finished, but since High Street is pretty narrow, the road I live on is being used as a storage facility of sorts. There's been a lot of drilling/jackhammering/loud noises going on and I've been unable to sleep without waking up in the middle of the night for the past few weeks…

Out of 10 school days, I could leave early for 6 and come in late for 3 days :3

The biology meme board and my HSC timetable are attached for those who were interested in seeing them

18th-20th September

Final week of school It's been filled with food, food, and food.

Muck-up day today! We used water guns on the younger years and placed potatoes all around the school We destroyed decorated our uniforms and had the revue, with a dance party to finish off

I properly finish tomorrow with the graduation assembly, chapel service, and valedictory dinner

Tasmania!

Pretty much food and sightseeing :B Ate loads and loads of seafood, hiked on Mount Wellington, visited MONA, the Salamanca Markets, and Bruny Island :)

Fun fact: My brother's glasses were blown off by the wind (weirdly enough, it occurred on the boat ride towards MONA and not around Bruny Island :P)

This will probably be my last post here :o

I think I've gotten over the disappointment of my marks and ATAR. I've included what I wrote about it below:

Quote
I've been repeatedly opening and closing this thread, debating whether or not to post this...

I received my HSC marks yesterday. Turned on my phone and the first thing that greeted me was an email at 6:15 =.= Opened it, saw my marks, and just stared it them for a while. For each subject, I kept running through different scenarios in my head, wondering where I could have gotten more marks, how I ended up with the ones staring back at me. At the same time, I expected the marks that I received, so I was both disappointed and slightly detached from them.

This morning, I couldn't sleep at all. I tossed and turned in my bed, trying to calm myself down but I couldn't. (I'm normally a deep sleeper once I'm asleep so this is unusual). I logged on to the UAC app at 8:30 and saw my ATAR. It did get me over the requirement for my desired course, which is the whole purpose of the ATAR and what people tell me matters the most, but there is always the thought at the back of my head, what if? What if I started putting more effort instead of procrastinating all the time?

Was feeling pretty down about it for 1-2 days after, but I got a job (at Boost) so that helped :D I've also gotten into the course I wanted, which was another bonus! (see sig for deets)

I'm still deciding whether I should make a uni journey journal, as I'm pretty bad at keeping one 😂

Hey Jess

Reaching out only to say I had something quite similar. I was devastated when the results and ATARs came out. When I got my marks, I was thinking "Yeah cool this is pretty good" but the reality is, I knew it wasn't what I wanted? But that denial meant that getting my ATAR the next day was an even ruder shock. And it was not even a half bad ATAR, in fact, it was an excellent ATAR. But I had worked too hard and I thought I'd played the game well enough that I'd be able to get figures back that reflected what I thought I deserved. But the same as you - I got a new job shortly after and I got into my first preference. So, nothing in the end was bad. But I had honestly never wanted to bury myself into a hole more than I did the day the ATARs came out. How had a system I worked so hard for, tricked me? Or at least that's what it felt like. For days I was feeling quite heavy and in the dumps about it.

In the end, though, I got almost everything I wanted. Even though I tortured myself for a bit wondering where I could've improved, now I can rest assured that I gave it my all. I'm sure you can find peace in this soon too :)
