Heheh!!! I was just looking at my subjects for engineering and was calculating the contact hours for semester 1...
17 hours per week!!!! WOW!!!
In high school it was 30 hours+....WOW!!!
But then there are the extra hours you have to dedicate to studying/reviewing what you learnt at uni... :'(

More like getting drunk... :D
Nah, don't worry too much. You won't be doing more than 13 hours of study a week anyway... well you don't need to I think :)

You study as hard as you need to.
You'll know how much that is when you get there =D
Still...17 hours a week for engineering sounds a little low though! I've found a lot of my friends doing Engineering at the 25-30 mark.

I know that Sci/Eng is 30-something hours - 35, if I remember correctly. Hurray :p

How many hours would be involved for Commerce @ Melb or Monash?
-
Not many =D
Similar to what Arts would be - but you'll be spending your free time writing essays!

My semester 1 was 18, although it was 15 half of the time (pracs don't run every week).
My semester 2 was the same.
My summer semester now is 10 hours, but more like 8 hours since lectures finish very early.
These hours are diluted by Commerce subjects though (usually about 3 hours a week per subject)

how many weeks are usually in a semester?
all ive got for my engineering degree at swinburne is this:
Year 1
Semester 1
HES1300 Robotics and Mechatronics Project 1
HES1125 Mechanics of Structures
HET124 Energy and Motion
HMS111 Engineering Mathematics 1
1 Semester 72 Hours
1 Semester 60 Hours
1 Semester 5 Hours per Week
1 Semester 5 Hours per Week

Twelve. It makes sense too, given your subjects have multiples of 12 for the hours per semester.
