That was a pretty good exam. I quite liked it because there wasn't anything really nasty or surprising. However, some of the multiple choice were spicy and confusing.

I totally agree -- I'm quite happy with the way that exam went. Definitely dropped a few marks here and there, especially the last couple of MC questions

If I wrote section B in pencil though, does that matter?

Shouldn't matter, only concern is when the exams are scanned the pencil may get rubbed off, or not show well.
I'm sure many others did Physics or other exams in pencil

Why is it that people always seem to write with pencil more than pen?

It shouldn't matter as long as the pencil doesn't get smudged on the way to the examiners/assessors marking said paper.

Writing with pen should be a standard now. If your teachers haven't talked enough about it, then I don't know what else would make people write with pencil, apart from desperate circumstances.

Pretty sure people write in pencil incase they make mistakes... erasing pencil is easier than erasing pen ;)

You can simply cross out mistakes. Rubbing away pencil gets grimy, and this is from personal experience.

If you want to write with pencil, I ain't stopping you. It just seems strange that you wouldn't stick to pen.

If they cant read your scanned version, they will just get the original paper, so don't worry. I can guarantee you a lot of people will write in pencil, who does maths in pen? I can understand using pen for theory but not for calculations..

Good God, am I the only one who writes in pen on a regular basis apart from MC questions? XD

I use pencil for diagrams (only) on exams. However, outside exams I use mechanical pencil 90% of the time. Even my methods summary book was mainly written in pencil

I would've liked the exam to be a bit more difficult, but it was ok.
The experiment question was my EPI, so that was nice.

I wonder if physics will be up before chemistry?

I'd laugh hard if that happened.

I did physics last year in pencil and got 43. It doesn’t matter what you write in unless it’s white ink.

Edit: ignoring the butthurt kid below me, there’s essentially no risk in writing in pencil given that it’s atleast 2B lead.

I'd rather be safer than sorry, but each to their own, I suppose.

Never use erasable pens though; they erase through heat so the scanning will make all of your work vanish.

I like barely studied and found it not that bad, there were no big curveballs so I feel like it'll be higher than other years, though I'm not knowledgable on what they have been previously so I couldn't give you a number.

I'd say around 35 - 37 based off last years distributions but this exam seemed fairly easy, not to mention the new study design, so take it with a grain of salt.

Definitely possible to get 42+, depending on your SAC marks. 120/130 puts you at low-mid A+ from the last few years' distributions.

Yeh about midA+ in a really strong cohort...

Was really hoping the exam was quite hard as that's when i concentrate better, finished it too quick because i personally found it too easy for a year 12 exam  and made some silly errors

not too sure but i think q10 mc was implying simply motion in a completely different reference frame, any further clarification on this

Laws of motion only apply for inertial frames (non-accelerating), so the results in an accelerating and non-accelerating trains would differ.

This exam seems on the easier side compared to recent past ones, although I could only understand the content that is shared from the past study design.

Some of the diagrams, especially the ones for the photoelectric effect looks literally identical to diagrams in older exams.

I also wouldn’t rely on last year’s cut-off as a reference since one of the electronics question (removed from the study design) was pretty challenging - only because it was sus af.

Question 19 seems ambiguous to me. What are they asking?

Quote
Evaluate Mary and Roger's statements in light of the current understanding of light and matter. Describe two experiments that show the difference between Mary and Roger's views.

While Mary is correct that electrons produce a diffraction pattern (crystals, single-slit), I think Roger is correct in saying that electrons are particles, due to the fact that they can be deflected using a magnetic field (JJ Thomson), and as such carry a charge, as you would expect for a particle.

Thoughts?

Shouldn't the answer in question 11 a be doubled? coz its asking for the lifetime not the half-life??

If you double the half life a quarter of the particles remain, they don't all deteriorate

I think Q13 can be solved through equating energies. The energy at the top is the same as the energy at the bottom. Whereas at the equilibrium point Ek=0, Us≠0 and Ug≠0. At the botton, Ek=0, Us≠0 and Ug=0. At the top, Ug≠0 and everything else is 0. Thus, you can equate.

Hey Guys,
Remember the question asking us to evaluate 3 responses to wether or not the speed of the satellite will have to be the same, more, or less than Charon(moon of pluto)?? I know Melissa is correct, however, in the heat of the moment, in my final/ concluding statement of my response(having justified everything using formulaic proofs), I just wrote "hence the speed of the satellite will be the same as the speed of Charon"(which is essentially what Melissa says). Will I still get the last mark?
