Congratulations, I knew you both would get in! :)

One mistake though, UMEP > MUEP ;)

This should include non-maths enhancement/extension studies too. :)

why would anyone rather do MUEP over UMEP?  ???

mind you, from what my old maths teacher was telling me, the UMEP maths syllabus is changing majorly, they're putting all this linear algebra (eigenvectors, eigenvalues etc) crap in there now.

They are! that's what my old maths teacher told me :P It's now 70% linear algebra/vectors and the other 30% is like multi-variable calculus, complex etc. They've completely removed Integral Calculus. It's just gone.

That sounds boring, linear algebra is boring, get a computer to do your linear algebra, I want to do integrals in year 12

No. It's terrible. Enjoy your soporific boredom. :P jk. It's not *that* boring, but row-reduction and matrix equation solving can be quite tedious. It's still a more difficult course, it's just a helluva lot less enjoyable now. Integral calculus was the best part and they destroyed it. R.I.P. :'(

Woot! I got into unimath at Monash.  Going to Clayton too, guess I'll see you guys/girls there?

I know someone who has access to the monash timetable system, But it doesn't say when it is.  However, I'm pretty sure last year it was Wednesday.

=O wtf was today's stupid information session... gotta be the quietest, most awkward and boring thing i ever did, :P
and no one said hi even tho we have so many @ clayton maths (toothpick said two words, "me" and "hey")
and what should've taken the guy about 10 minutes to say he dragged on to 45, now i dread semester two with him (can you imagine it!!!)

lool [/rant]

I didnt say hi to anyone, haha, mainly cause I didn't know who was who, and who is actually at Clayton [that was a session for all EC students, apparently].  Hopefully the clayton class is smaller.

First few weeks of stuff looks easyish.

who spoke to y'all? was it chris hough? or alan couchman?
alan was the real lecturer last year, chris was just there for revision.....he's an old guy but still studying something at uni as well (my bro said he was in one of his lectures haha)
but he's a good teacher nonetheless (and he gave us huge apples every class)

Chris Hough spoke to us. Alan Couchman is going to teach us for semester one, and Chris Hough is apparently (for the first time) taking over for semester two. Cool, apples. :)

No, I could have. But some of my older friends who did it said it took a lot out of you(time wise)

I did psych instead (which isn't that bad after all)

did any MUEP people got this letter Melissa Melder is supposed to send us?
I went on to my.monash the other night, and at last MAT1055 is there, but i dont seem to be able to enrol, nor am i able to access blackboard because i have no enrolments

and the class supposedly starts next week (according to the schedule), am i right to assume that it starts @ 4.30 in building 28 somewhere?? ;)

:P great organisation, monash

I havn't got the letter yet.  How do you already have a my.monash portal login?

I spoke with Chris via email, and he said

"The venue is building 28, the students will meet their teacher initially on the first floor next to the main stairs which are located on the south side in the middle of the building."

And its on Thursdays.  Starts in the week of the 11th, so Im assuming the 14th.

Seeya there? :)

yep, got that, some lady called me just then

for the log-in, you can use your VTAC/VCAA number (toothpick found that out :P)
and supposedly next week we're getting stuff sent to us, (possibly paper demanding payments)

and i shall most definitely see you there, this time actuall say hi! :D

My Spesh teacher at school is running Monash Maths, and I've just got confirmation today that I got in :D Got 3 weeks worth of work to catch up on though it means. Monash were late (ie, asked sometime around the start of the school year) in asking my teacher to run the program, therefore we're a bit behind schedule but should be up to date in a week or so.

and btw how come u couldnt apply last year???

Title: Re: WWWOOOOO extension (subject not relevant)
Post by: Mao on February 27, 2008, 09:34:13 pm
yes i have, that was uh... last week this time, i think...

maybe ring up melissa melder or email her, but the payment term is 30 days, so its not urgent :P

with that is also an ID form (u need to supply photo), as well as a personal details form... (and how to use my.monash, but u are way ahead of that one xD )
Title: Re: WWWOOOOO extension (subject not relevant)
Post by: Matt The Rat on February 27, 2008, 09:36:14 pm
Thanks Mao! Yeah, we're doing a catch up session for all the matrices stuff after school tomorrow then we should be on par with the schedule. I received the question sheets today from the teacher and have had a crack at most of them but we'll go through them all tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I couldn't apply last year but the thought of it didn't seem that appealing. We've got 3 other guys in the Spesh class doing the Melb Uni. maths and they all applied last year whereas all the guys now doing Monash Maths only applied this year. The teacher coaxed us into applying for it after Monash asked him to run the program at school.

should i make a thread for it...?

Well according to the schedule I've been given, with a comprehensive run down of the exercises, limits and continuity starts on the week beginning March 10 and is then largely calculus until mid May.

mmm Matt the Rat, you have a whole CLASS doing MUEP @ ur school? where do u go?

We don't have the entire Spesh class doing MUEP; only 6 people ended up applying for MUEP. Therefore, collectively out of the 25 or so kids doing Spesh this year 9 are doing some form of uni maths. I'm at Parade College, Bundoora.
Title: Re: WWWOOOOO extension (subject not relevant)
Post by: Mao on February 27, 2008, 09:50:50 pm
i assume that will be @ ur school is an enhancement centre? or a tutorial centre...?

and btw, i think we have 3 weeks of linear algebra each semester, and the rest is all calculus, YES!

ps toothpick xD LOL
Title: Re: WWWOOOOO extension (subject not relevant)
Post by: Matt The Rat on February 27, 2008, 10:02:49 pm
Umm... To be honest, I'm not 100% sure with what you mean by "enchancement centre or a tutorial centre". As far as I know, we've got a 2hr session after school once a week with the 6 students and the teacher in one of the classrooms at school.

I just remembered that I've in fact got the full year's week-by-week schedule. In Semester 2, there's a couple of weeks of algebra thrown in at the start with some sequences and series about midway through but besides that it's primarily calculus.
