Title: Copyright? Referencing inspirational image creators?

Hi, I'm very confused about referencing for inspirational images. Do we need to do this for every single image? What if we have looked everywhere and cannot find the essentials? (name of artwork, name of artist, and year it was created)
I plan on applying for TopArts and I realse that they would be very strict about copyrught.
