Title: What should i do?!
Post by: mattyw_rules on October 11, 2009, 04:38:23 pm
i am in year 11 currently doing VET Multimedia 3/4, i plan to do English, further, Geography, Legal studies and economics, but our school isn't offering Eco because only 9 kids in our school are doing it. which subjects should i pick?, i am planning to do an economics/finance course at uni but i dont wanna do accounting beacuse i hate it. what should i do? would it hurt that much to do just 4 subjects next year?

thanks in advance.

You could always look at Distance Ed. if you're very keen on doing Economics.

"Would it hurt that much..." Well depends on how high you want to aim for your ENTER score. Play around with the EnterCalc on this site and find out.

9 kids want to do it and your school isn't running it?
I went to an underrepresented public school, but it would still run classes with only 4 or 5 people.
My year 12... I had... I can't remember exactly... it was about 6 people in my spec class, and about 8 in my accounting class.
The room that was often used for Italian for the year 12s was pretty hilarious... enough space for about 6 tables, made into a rectangle.

Anywayz... EnterCalc.

Your school is being ridiculous, I had 2 subjects with only 3 people in the class.

Anyway, as dekoyl said - Distance Ed is the way to go if you're set on economics.

Otherwise:
What course, exactly, do you want to do? (name of course and university)
What's the ENTER requirement for it?
How do you think you'll go with multimedia?

Most of those subjects scale down, so unless you are really really smart, I'd recommend you do 5 subjects in year 12.

You want to do eco/finance? THEN DO METHODS

its a prereq for a lot of eco/finance courses in the better universities

Bit late for that if he hasn't done 1+2 though.

I think the real question is, would your school ALLOW you to do 4 subjects next year. (I know mine doesn't and is pretty tight about classes, needing 15 minimum to run something. My methods teacher was complaining they might also get rid of one methods class (about 30 kids doing methods next year) and try to cram better kids into one to make way for an extra further class...)

Do you know anyone how has done distance ed? is it harder?
there is a course at monash and RMIT im pretty keen on i think the ENTER requirement is 82 or around there.
i'll go alright in multimedia but it gets scaled down by 5 so i'll probably get around 34, 33.
thanks

Distance Ed is an option, but im concerned about having no teacher.

Yes, I know people who did Music Styles, and specialist maths through distance ed, both of whom got study scores of 40+. It is more challenging because it requires you to take more responsibility for your own learning - not necessarily a bad thing; think of it as preparation for uni.

You're not going to be alone though. You'll have a teacher who you can correspond with by email etc. and who you can direct your questions to.
