Title: Exams- word count
Post by: Never.Give.Up on March 19, 2018, 06:43:57 pm
Hey :D
just wondering how many words the average person can write in say 45 mins? Of course it depends on your individual handwriting speed- but I'm just wondering anyway! ;)

Based on handwriting speed, I can do 1100/hour. (775/45min). But factoring in thinking time, I'd say I could do ~700 per hour (525/45 min)
Interested to hear what other can do!

Depends on the subject though;
For visual arts, I can do around 1000-1100 words in the 45 minute limit
For english and other subjects, I can do 750-850 words in 40 minutes.

Keen to hear other people's records ;)

Just like beatroot said, it depends on the subject:
English and Society & Culture essays I can write 800 words in ~45 minutes.
Modern essays I can write 1000 words in ~50 minutes.

It also depends how my posture changes during the exam. I start sitting upright but then I start hunching my shoulders, which gets stiff so I have to slouch in my seat a bit- I feel like if someone were to just record me sitting throughout the exam and increase the speed, you'll see me move back and forth from the number of times I fidget in my seat xD

Mine was probably about the 1000 word mark when I felt on a roll and could more or less sit on autopilot. Much less as I got less confident with the question - At a guess I probably got about 700-750 words in one of my final HSC essays actually!

Quality > Quantity, as always ;)
