ATAR Notes Update!

Hello, friends! Hope you're all enjoying the school holidays/mid-sem uni break ;D I've made this thread because I have some really exciting news to share on behalf of the admin and moderation team.

As you all may know, ATAR Notes is undergoing some pretty exciting changes at the moment - one of these changes is the development of a new website to help cater for the growing demand for easily accessible education.

With these upcoming changes and our desire to be an inclusive community in mind, the ATAR Notes team has decided to do a bit of re-branding. Don't fret, though! We'll still be offering the same amazing subject help and advice, the same lectures and the same subject reviews. The only difference is that we'll have a new and exciting logo!

Aside from the aforementioned reasons for changing it, we felt like it was time to display the fact that we don't offer help solely to high school users - we also offer help and heaps of resources to university students. After all, 2 out of the top 3 most viewed topics on this forum are university-based threads!

This new branding shows a really exciting time of progress for ATAR Notes, and we hope that you're all as excited as we are by the new direction we're taking. Countless hours have gone into developing this, so I'd just like to spend a few moments to acknowledge the enormous effort that the graphic designers have put in. I'd also like to thank our sample group of high school and university students who helped us decide on the final design - your input has been invaluable.

Honestly, this looks amazing! I think it perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the community! Everything from the colour to the shape to the sharp angles has a story behind it -- a story that can be found within the pages of these very forums. Bravo.

Hey, Phoenixx! There are indeed. We haven't decided yet, but this is the scheme we're leaning towards. Give us your thoughts! We want something that's easy to look at for twelve hours a day (the average time spend on AN per active user).

Thanks - I shouldn't be taking credit for it though, I'm just making the announcement because all the admins are being slackers over Easter haha.

Just to follow on from what Caleb said, at the moment we're looking to incorporate the new logo and colour scheme into the new website. The consensus between the admins at the moment is that it'd probably be a bit too difficult to get the new colour change going with the current SMF code, so we'll just put it in when the new website is up and running.

I love the orange kate! It gives off such a warm and comforting feeling, is the site going to change its theme colour too?

You can tell the inordinate amount of time that has gone into the making of such an endearing and inclusive new logo. All the blood, sweat and tears have certainly been worth it now I see the finished product in all its glory. Long live ATAR & WAM Notes.

Thank you for the feedback, Zofro! We will be sure to design a colour-blindness friendly version. Perhaps we can make the background a strong blue, so people with deuteranomaly can see a strong contrast with the orange.

We've designed various versions of the logo to accomodate all sorts of people. For example, on the new website, our users will be able to feel the logo in Braille!

Hey E6P! Thanks for the feedback - we decided to change to a warmer colour because we felt it reflected that comforting feeling we want members of our community to feel when they're on the ATAR Notes forums.

Realistically, we'd love to have it going on this version of the website, but as Joseph41 mentioned in the website update thread, there's heaps of custom code written into the forum and we're a bit worried that if we installed the new theme now, we'd mess things up a bit too much and potentially break the forum.

Wow, this is fantastic! The new logo is really great. Can we start a merchandising branch to go along with the launch? I want ATAR Notes shoes.

That's a fantastic idea, poet! I think ATAR Notes shoes will really capture the sole of this forum.

Would you want to make the background of the entire site pink in order to follow the colour scheme? Would the writing be green or black?

Thanks for the feedback on this new change, all, and Kate for announcing it. I'm sincerely excited to start pushing out FB ads in the ATAR Notes Orange very soon.

Our plan is actually to make the background of the site change automatically every five minutes, rotating through fluorescent green, hot pink, and pitch black. The text would flash between bright yellow and pitch black, for emphasis!

In my opinion, you guys should just add a theme switcher - so the end user can select their preferred colour for the site :D

Mmmm I personally think ATAR & WAM notes isn't as memorable and catchy as

I like this idea. Can we get an option for a royal purple background with fluro orange text?

Are there any alternative warm colours that we haven't mentioned that you think would be good for the website? The graphic designers thought that warm colours would be the best for consumer engagement, but we're open to suggestions.

Just to clarify, do you mean you'd prefer a blue or light blue background with blue, light blue or orange text?

Thanks for your idea, darkdzn! We might pitch this idea to the guy overseeing website development and see what his thoughts are. What are your preferred colours?

Just wanted to reiterate my thanks for sharing your opinions - keeping the userbase happy is a really important thing to us, so we love hearing what you guys have to say! :D

As a former art student I completely agree that the fluoro background would really suit the website. I think a bright pink background with flashing lights would really bring it to life and make studying on the website seem more enjoyable. Added to this, are you guys still planning on having an ATAR and WAM Notes jingle playing in the background? I heard this was being planned and thought it would be a perfect complement to the flashing lights as to create a disco type atmosphere for studying. :) Great work guys! Can't wait to see the new background and jingle when I look through the website!
