Title: Initialism or shortening?
Post by: emmasc on June 02, 2018, 02:33:34 pm
Would shortening email to 'e' be considered an initialism or shortening?

More properly shortening, because it's a single word; I guess you could argue that initialisms are just a series of shortenings sounded individually?

Agree with the above - I see that as a shortening (apocope specifically).

What's the context for this? I don't think I've ever heard "email" be shortened to just "e" before haha.

P.S. Welcome to the forums! Great question. ;D
