Title: Transition Related Text!
Post by: sandychandra on July 19, 2018, 08:17:50 pm
Hey Guys!!
I'm looking for a related text for my Module C, exploring transitions. My teacher said i could do the movie or novel "The Fault in our Stars". But, i am unsure if that would go well.
My prescribed text is "The Simple Gift" by Steven Herrick.
Please help me!!  :'( :'(

Hey, sandychandra!

Welcome to the forum!  ;D I'm not doing Standard English so my suggestions may not be that relevant but after having a quick skim of the rubric and reading your text's synopsis, I do have a few ideas for a related text which could match it.

I wouldn't suggest using 'TFIOS', neither book nor the film, because it's not as strong of a text which you can deconstruct. One of my teachers marks the AOS Essay section and she has commented on it being one of the most overdone ORT so it's good that you're branching out to other ideas. I think doing a film can actually be quite great because it will contrast nicely with your prescribed text's form. Two films which I can think of off the top of my head are 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Amelie.' I studied 'Good Will Hunting' in Year 10 English so I can vouch that it is a great text for looking at transition and could fit really well with the themes in your prescribed text. 'Amelie' is also one of my favourite films of all time and is another possibility.

If you want a text that is short but meaty nonetheless, I would recommend looking at some poetry to analyse. Sarah Crossan's 'The Weight of Water' is a really enjoyable read that is written in free verse. It has that coming of age feel which I think could link well in tandem with your prescribed text.

TED Talks also make great related texts so if there's any you have watched that may have transition aspects in them, you could look at using them too. They're the most accessible and easy to view of the forms I have provided so take a whirl with whatever works best for you!

That's all I have at the moment but hopefully someone else can offer some more suggestions, especially if they study/have studied your text. Good luck with finding one and I hope this helps  ;D ;D
