Title: If it were up to you, who would be Prime Minister?
Post by: Joseph41 on August 21, 2018, 10:43:21 am
With the #libspill chaos this morning, I wondered: if all of the above were still in politics, it was viable etc., who would be my PM preference?

I'm going with Gillard. ;) I'm sure I've missed some, but interested in other perspectives here!

While Malcolm Turnbull was fairly ineffective as a leader, it was nice have a liberal PM who was more centrist and actually attempted to control the far right section of the party who are completely out of touch with reality. But now I think enough is enough. Richard Di Natale’s speech in parliament really resonated with me and while I will be perfectly satisfied with labour’s victory, I am definitely going to vote greens. I really don’t want our country to become America, where I think capitalism is taken to a far too extreme level, and I just want someone who will actually start investing in renewable energy and plan for the future, even if it’s too late to save the Great Barrier Reef.

I really would love Julie Bishop as a leader she is strong and has great ideals (and has style!) to bad she's leaving!

But in all seriousness people just want a Prime Minister that gets stuff done. When I say people I really mean 'I', but still I think Scott Morison may do a good job.

She'll still be on the backbench. Never say never!

This article is an interesting analysis what Julie Bishop might have meant when asked if the liberals will ever elect a popular female leader.

Quote from: ABC
"When we find one, I'm sure we will." - Julie Bishop

I read it as one of Julie Bishop's chilliest-ever slapdowns — directed to her party and to anyone else who might listen.

Extended, I reckon it might read thus:

"When we find one, I'm sure we will. Of course, finding such a woman is never easy. I mean, realistically you'd need someone who's had a distinguished career before politics and then amassed a significant amount of parliamentary experience — say, 20 years or so, for example.

"She'd also need to have served in a number of frontbench roles — ideally in government. I don't know, maybe in education for domestic policy experience, but also a lengthy and well-regarded stint in foreign affairs wouldn't hurt.

"She'd need to have a good relationship with the backbench. Perhaps even have served as deputy leader!

"You'd need someone who hasn't lost their head during leadership crises plus she'd need to have a good record for hard work, and a record free of ministerial scandal.

"And she'd have to be publicly popular, electable and a good fundraiser.

"AND WHERE ON EARTH WOULD WE EVER FIND A WOMAN LIKE THAT?"

I was just about to post my view before I read yours... My feelings exactly! #ByeJulieBishop
Hopefully Scott Morrison will 'get stuff done' as you say! We need that in Australia!

I think the idea of what Turnbull was going for was great - a pretty centrist person who tried to keep the far right of the libs in check and drag the party towards the middle. The whole abbott dutton abetz block are complete nutters imo. There should really be a party that is like a malcolm turnbull/julie bishop vibe without the craziness and the far right. That was actually what palmer was going for but he became a meme and it was too much about himself. I think im going to go with Julie Bishop on this one
