Hello guys,
Can someone please explain (with examples) what colloquial language and colloquialisms are.
I tried reading and researching but I came with two definitions. One is when it’s opposite to it’s literal meaning and the other is informal expressions used by certain countries and regions such as “wanna” and “kid” instead of child.
I’m really confused if both examples are fine and what VCAA wants us to know.

Informal.
Eg. "How're ya goin' ?" is colloquial and "How are you?" is more formal
In regards to "opposite meanings" this would be described as an antonym. Eg. sad and happy are antonyms
