Are CASIO Classpads still needed in uni? I'm planning to do a biomed/science degree if that sheds any light on its necessity.

Depends what you want to do in University.
Even if the course doesn't require CAS calculators, I sometimes wished I had it for calculations because it was easier to solve things with it.
I'm not doing any math heavy subjects, so you will need an answer from someone with a math background.

I've found having mine around handy. However, you could just use an emulator on your computer or Wolfram

It might be useful to keep if you're interested in doing any VCE tutoring.
I'm doing a math major, and while initially I did use my CAS often to check my answers on assignments and the like, most universities will give you access to computing packages such as Mathematica, and these are way more powerful than the CAS. I now only use my CAS when I'm doing VCE tutoring, and rely on other software to do my university work, as they are more powerful and allow you to do more things. If you don't intend on pursuing a math major, but might consider doing some first year level math in university, then the CAS might still be useful, but regardless, you will be given access to other tools if you do (or don't) choose to sell your CAS.

Correct, if you are planning to do chemistry, physics, maths, or biology, you will need it at some point.
Keep in mind that universities have a strict rule on which calculator you can use during the exam.

At Melbourne University, CASIO Fx-82 is the only model allowed in the examination.
I cannot speak for other universities though.

Damn really? Most faculties at Monash will permit most non-programmable scientific calculators in exams.
