Hi everyone!
Sorry if this is a dumb question.
But let’s say I didn’t do UMAT and I’m interested in becoming a doctor.
If I complete the “bachelor of advanced science - pre medicine” course, will I be able to create a pathway to becoming a general pracitoner/doctor? Or is there another course I should be looking into?

Hey, I went to the UTS open day and spoke to the pre-med table.
Essentially they were saying that it’s sort of like medical science in the sense it’s an undergrad that leads well but is specific for medicine.
They mentioned something about trying to start a connection program with Notre Dames medicine program but I don’t think it’s happened yet.
Once you complete that degree you will still need to complete GAMSAT and get a high GPA (I think that’s what it’s called essentially get good uni marks) and then you could apply for a post grad program.
I’ve heard doing a science undergrad is helpful for doing the GAMSAT so that’s the advantage and once in medicine you’ll have good knowledge which will help you do well but you won’t have any preferential treatment (not the right word I can’t think how to say it sorry) just because you did that degree.
I’m in a similar position to you but am looking at the Advanced Science - Infection and Immunity as I liked the career options if I don’t do medicine. Like if you’re super set on medicine then pre-med would be a good degree but if not maybe consider broader options.
I’ve only just finished year 12 so am only going off what I heard; I spent about an hour talking to the science desks at UTS open day asking similar questions.
If you’re in year 12 maybe go to info day on Dec 15, if younger or taking a gap year definitely go to open day next year.

Just to add to the above, that degree should help you get into medicine at any of the post-graduate universities in Australia, except for Monash which has a really silly way of appointing their medical students. Some universities don't require the GAMSAT, but nearly all do.
