With less than a week until results are released, how are you all feeling?

I’m almost certain i’m going to miss out on the ATAR I need by between 0.05 and 0.5 ATAR points.

I just wanna know already, but at the same time ignorance is a bliss and I kinda don’t want to know. Every time I picture myself logging in to that vce results app I get anxiety and can feel my blood pressure rising loooool. This time next week I’ll finally know that one number tho, so we’re nearly there

Not kidding, this actually happened to me. However I was lucky enough to get an early conditional offer due to disadvantage/special entry scheme. Anyways, if you get that close, chances are you'll get picked up via middle band or even 2nd round. Gotta remember too that not all offers that are accepted are taken, some withdraw as they were only holding onto their first round offer as a safety net. You'll be right :)

Unfortunately this is not for a course (I plan to do science at UoM which is a reasonable 85) but the UoM graduate entry guarantee for med/dent which requires a minimum of 99.
No special consideration or rounds to help me here making missing it by a few ATAR points very painful haha.

I can already feel the disappointment coming even though I’ve worked so hard this year and gotten decent results for the SAC’s. I’m not even sure I want to see my study scores, just my ATAR. 😭😭

I know right?

I know this is a silly question but do those of you who received your results in previous years think you should look at your study scores or your ATAR first? It’s obviously semantics but I’ve been thinking about it all day because I believe there really are advantages and disadvantages to both. Have any of you actually looked at your ATAR before your study scores and what did you think of it that way? Thanks :)

Personally I did study scores first for a couple of reasons - I thought SS's were more meaningful because that is what I was working towards and ATAR is just a result of that also I would have a rough idea of the ATAR by looking at the SS's.

Although really just depends on the person (I think this topic has been discussed lately on the Class of 2018 thread)

Others like getting ATAR first because they can lift that pressure off early (especially if they feel they are on the borderline for a course) and then look through SS's. Also if you look at SS's first you will have a few seconds of panic calculating an ATAR (so really a positive and negative depending on the person).

I was more worried about not getting 30+ in eng lang than my ATAR so I looked at my study scores first. My take was to get the most anxiety out of the way as soon as I could, & I was happy with that approach.

I looked at my study scores first because I wasn't confident with English and didn't know if I was going to get the 25 I needed for most of my courses (I got a 26). For me, the ATAR wouldn't have mattered if I didn't get the English score.

Also, remember clearly-ins are not set in stone. Many fall under it, so you just never know. :)
Preference #1 should always be what you want to study most, with only one exception - conditional offers that state you must put them as first as your preferences.

Omg it’s getting so close!!! I honestly feel like I’ve overestimated my study scores by about 10. Seeing the HSC people talking about their results definitely does not help lessen the agony of the wait haha!
I had a nightmare last night where I opened the results and ATAR app to see raw 10s for both my 3/4s. Urgh!!
Same. I keep having nightmares where I get just below the clearly in for my course haha - which is also kind of ridiculous since I qualify for EAS so I'd probably get in anyway lol

Hey! :) I don’t do LOTE but I’m pretty sure you won’t be told your oral score unless you pay for a statement of marks.

I remember having a dream a few nights before results release that I got an ATAR of 12.00. Was interesting.

Not having the guarantee is a bit of a blessing in some ways to be perfectly honest. Without a safety blanket, you're almost forced to apply yourself a bit more.

Considering the 99 Guarantee is a FFP it would be silly not to do the GAMSAT and go for a CSP position regardless of whether you have the FFP secured or not. I'd definitely try and go for a CSP but, like you said, the guarantee is still a safety blanket in that if you do get unlucky with the GAMSAT/GPA but fulfill the requirements you can still get into Medicine. I would still have to maintain a considerable WAM of 70%+ and pass the interview.

Generally no - you can do a pathway (e.g. a diploma) that will generally get you into wherever you want to be faster (or at least at the same speed) than repeating and it'll be more interesting than just redoing things.
Who's actually gonna get any sleep??
I hope I will :( (Although it may be nice to be tired enough to just fall asleep right after I find out and avoid all the questions lol

Hi, I’m not sure if this is a dumb question but when we get our results from the website tomorrow, the study scores are raw until we click view atar, and then it shows the scaled scores, right? I was wondering whether the letter grades were also raw. So if I got a C+ raw in GA1 but it became a B after scaling, for example, would it say C+ or B?

Who's actually gonna get any sleep??
Haha I’ve been sleeping a lot less than usual in the past few days and I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to get any tonight but I hope I do since I only got 6 last night. Good luck!

What if you applied for a derived oral exam score? Will it be stated that the oral component is derived if successful?

Same here! The closer to the release date, the later I go to sleep. Yesterday (technically today) I went to sleep at 5am and woke up at 3pm. I think that I might reach 7am today lol

Pretty sure they'll be raw - or it might have both (in which case it'll be labelled).

The letter grades are always raw, you'll get letter grades, a raw study score, and a scaled study score - the letter grades don't get changed (after they've been moderated, which is a seperate process).

I recommend sleeping if you can - it'll help you with your emotional regulation tomorrow (especially if you need to go into your school for a careers meeting) :)

Pretend to sleep?

I used to have my marked assessments taken off me by classmates so they could see my results even in year 8 but on ATAR day people were more focused on their results than anything else. I hope you're pleasantly surprised by people leaving you alone

Your individual grades are moderated but not scaled. You'll see the moderated grades

good luck :)

Grades (GA) are final after doing all the moderation etc.

Usually with scaled study scores, you can see the difference as in a lot of cases the scaled SS is a decimal. You should see both.

I have no idea what the portal looks like today, but https://imgur.com/a/xTKeO3v should give you an idea of what to expect.

That's good you get at least that. I can remember when they didn't do that and students spam refreshed it until the servers crashed. I suppose it eases the load doing it the current way. Save them, you never know hey! I got a few upper 20s and I still save them.... dunno why but they're hidden very deep in my external hdd never to be publically shown

Judging by my screenies the raw ones would be in the study score section along with GAs, and the scaled are in the ATAR part.

On the day of the ATAR result release, I didn't get up at 7am.. I just slept as normal and opened the results when I woke up. Guaranteed load. ;)

No. As long as you don't randomly bring your results up in conversations on a semi-regular basis, it's fine

Yeah, mine (2017) were formatted similarly - with that info in a study scores table (raw and scaled) and the ATAR page seperate (but also showing scaled)

Good luck everyone! I hope that you're all pleased with your results :) If you're not, that's equally fine. Your ATAR really is just one key to the front door of your near future. There's heaps of other doors available through different ways and your ATAR doesn't define you. We're all here for you!

P.S: A reminder to all that results posted on AN tend to be skewed towards the top end of scores. They're definitely not representative of the rest of the state :)

Here's a really good boring story about my ATAR day experience.

Last year, I was actually on a school trip in the US on results day (yes, after I graduated).

Jet lag, plus being anxious about scores, plus a few mistimed trips to Starbucks before bed apparently equates to not sleeping for over 40 hours before scores release.

The end.
