I've assembled a flowchart to answer some of the more commonly asked questions about preferences. Hopefully it can help some of you out, and if you have any questions after reading it feel free to post them here.

Great flowchart.

Tbh, the bit about not having additional criteria, I'd even be careful about removing the course - unless you've filled up your entire preference list, it doesn't hurt you to leave the course there, but there is a chance that you've misread the requirements/you didn't understand them. Like, sure, if you didn't do the UMAT, you're not going to get into the Monash MBBS - but maybe you're interested in optometry and only assumed it requires the UMAT, when it actually doesn't
