Hi guys! On May 25th i did the jmss entry test for Year 11 in 2020. Who else did it, and how did you go?? I'm also wondering if anybody has heard anything from jmss yet? On the email it said that we will get an email in June about whether we made it to the interviews stage or not, and it's now nearly the end of June. Replies would be appreciated! :)

Hi! I also sat the JMSS entrance exam for Year 11 this year. It was a nice experience and a bit more comfortable than when I sat the entrance exam as a Year 9 student last year, because there were less people and I managed to get along with a couple of new faces.
I think I went well enough and I was able to complete all of the exams without much fuss. Personally, the science knowledge test was a bit harder for me because I wasn't taught year 10 science yet (at my school, it is an elective and my class commences in semester 2). The science communication task was also a bit difficult at first because I struggled to pick my topic. However, once I started writing, everything followed smoothly and I even had time left to draw a diagram!
What stood out to me the most was how I stayed behind to pack up all the tables and chairs (yes, even when everyone else left), and a teacher took notice of me and asked for my name :D
And yes, I have not heard from JMSS yet. Perhaps in the coming week?

Oh that's great! I agree, i found it much more comfortable than last year's haha. But i'm the opposite from you because i found the science knowledge test the easiest! I think the hardest was probably the science reasoning or one of the maths ones. But overall, I think i went pretty well too :)
Congrats on getting noticed by a teacher lol, that's fantastic. Yup, hopefully jmss will send out the email soon!!

Oh nice! I made it to the interview stage last year, but I’m not sure if it will run the same way (with group activities etc). And I’m also so scared!!

Last year I didn't make it to interviews either.
-
Yeah last year i made it to the interviews and it went for 45mins including many group activities and a 1 on 1 interview with a staff member. I was super nervous, so i will try to stay calmer and try better this time :) Good luck everyone!
-
I did my interview a few hours ago and have decided to leave a few notes for the people doing the interview next year. No group activities or quick math test for year 11 entry. Just a survey asking if you did accelerated subject during year 10 and an actual interview. I had a 2on1 interview but saw some others had a 1on1 interview. The interview was very straightforward other than one question asking what i would do if i was a city planner (I had no idea what to say) good luck to everyone who had an interview!
Also does anyone know when we will receive an admission confirmation/denial email?
-
Hi I’m Currently studying for the EBSS as I didn’t make it into jmms :'( do you remember what was on the science reasoning test as apparently it is the exact same.
Thanks

Ooo. How do you know?

I asked a person who got accepted last year "what date did you receive your confirmation email," and that was their response

Hi Everyone. I’ve been following this thread for a while. Today I called the JMSS today to see if they could give me an indication of when we would receive an email. They lady on the phone said they were busy with the year 10 applications so may not be until next week until we hear anything. I know new year 10’s for 2020 got their interview dates via email earlier this week. Just thought I’d share this information as I was also expecting an email by the end of today regarding Year 11 in 2020

If we do get accepted, do you know what we have to attend this year before starting next year?

This is from the JMSS website:
Orientation to JMSS
All new students to JMSS will undertake an intensive orientation program prior to commencement. Students entering Year 11 will participate in the school's Fresh Start Program in late November and early December. In this program students will meet their new classmates and teachers and begin their studies for the following year. Holiday homework will be set and it is important that all new students attend the full program.

yess i did , i think around 20 not sure tho ??
-
Hi guys, I got in. From previous years, I think around 25 people get it, but it can be as much as 30. I already know one other person that also got in. I know rejection first hand from not passing the JMSS interview last year, so I hope anyone that didn't get in doesn't feel too disheartened. Your VCE results are largely a result of the work you put in as an individual, and it doesn't even matter by the time we get into university :)
-
gj guys.....
lmao idk how youll make a smooth transition from your school, especially when you will attend in year 11.
Hopefully i get in for the year 10 entry but im kinda doubtful now.
-
Aye I got into JMSS :D. Add me on discord if u need any help and preparation materials for both the interviews and entrance exam, my tag is:
XxLOSTYxX#0511 8) Congratulations to everyone got in, looking forward to meeting you on orientation day :).
Btw @turtlesforeveryone shall we meet up on orientation day?

What do u mean by August the 16th? What is happening then?
Well, I just wanted to say that whomever doesn't make it into JMSS, don't lose hope. What your ATAR is, is determined by your hard work, passion, resilience and will. If you are a good student (or willing to become one) then schools don't matter whatsoever. Just always know that 90% of your VCE outcome will be determined by you and that your school and teachers only affect 10%. It is fine if you do not make it, life isn't just about JMSS, there are so many better opportunities out there so pls don't stress or beat yourself up over it:heart_exclamation:
I wish you all the very best of luck for your future!
GUN INTO EBS FOR ME ;D I AM ROOTING FOR YA
