Americanization of Australian English
The elocution movement
Any help appreciated.

World War 1 - Australians wanted to sound unique and demonstrate that they were fighting for their own nation, not just for GB.
Globalisation/Internet - Australian's have discarded of lexemes that are only understood by Australians and are using language that can easily be understood by those abroad

Another event which comes to mind is the impact of the gold rush. Linguists often cite this as one of the reasons why Australian English is so uniform (at least compared to other national dialects).
