No, you are not needed to be knowledgeable in coding, but it would benefit you if you know some basic knowledge.
Coding isn't a major part of the course, as Computing 1+2 (being changed to "Applied Computing" in 2020) is more based around databases, data analysis, and data visualisation. I've attached the study design for the subject, see page 16 (the number of the bottom of each page), which has an outline of the course and all the areas of study.
Outline in short:
unit 1
1. data analysis: database software, spreadsheets and data visualisation.
2. programming
unit 2
1. software tools: you will most likely make a website with a group (i made mine with wix)
2. theory: networks, digitial systems, security
If you want to be a software engineer, start thinking about what subjects you'll do in year 12. there are two IT subjects in year 12
1. Informatics (called Data Analytics in 2020): which is about all the data related stuff you do in year 11; databases, websites, etc.
2. Software Development: all programming
for software engineering, i'd do computing, physics, math methods (or specialists maths if ur smart), and then whatever else you want. you do 5 subjects in year 12, so probably do: Software Development, Physics, methods/specialists, english (obviously), and data analytics.
