Title: 2018 Heart of Darkness Section A help
Post by: MitosisMeiosis on September 28, 2019, 01:51:07 pm
Hey all,
Was wondering if anyone could share some guidance on 3 ideas for the 2018 HoD topic: "Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness In Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, the European intrusion into Africa damages all those involved. To what extent do you agree?".

So far, I only have:
1. The European enterprise damages Africa
2.The European enterprise damages Europe
3.?????

Thanks all!

Hello! I would suggest thinking about all the parties in HOD and separating them in more detail, rather than the very broad “Africans and Europeans”. Of course, you don’t need to get to specific considering you’ll most likely only need 3 points, but for example, you can talk about the damages to 1) the African people being colonised; 2) the European colonisers; 3) the families/friends/relatives of the colonisers back home in Europe. Or you could go about in a completely different way, and talk about the damaged to the land of Africa, Europe, and their respective futures on the world stage.

Of course there are many other things you can talk about but the main thing to remember is specificity! Don’t make each of your points too broad and bring in details as much as possible.
