how was exam 2.... i screwed up bad... ran outta time
-
yeah me too... anyone got answers or anything?
-
i didnt find it too bad..fairly straightforward..but really long!
did a few stupid mistakes..
MC took a lot of time.
-
GUESS WHAT
SPEC IS OVER
FOREVER
WOO :D
well done everyone
cant wait for solutions!!
:D
-
yeah, the short answer seemed easier than the previous years, though the MC was just as hard (for me).
by the way, did anybody else have trouble solving 1200=......some t-equation....? i kept getting t=-3ish =S, ended up having to draw a graph to find intersection
-
Multiple choice seemed annoyingly lengthy as many people have already said.
I'm just glad that's over rofl.
-
lol screwed up bad
-
did anybody else have trouble solving 1200=......some t-equation....? i kept getting t=-3ish =S, ended up having to draw a graph to find intersection
yeah! i just used a dodgy answer in hope of consequential marks
-
MC was gay as.
-
by the way, did anybody else have trouble solving 1200=......some t-equation....? i kept getting t=-3ish =S, ended up having to draw a graph to find intersection
Yeah I did, but I didn't have time to draw a graph ended up with 3 lines for that question lol
-
If i managed to get 60%...i would be a REAL HAPPY SPESH KID ^^
-

If you used the 'v=' equation and antidiffed, added the +c part and then solved for 1200 all in one input line you woulda gotten a positive solution as well
-
how did you do the MC question about the linearly dependant vectors?
I guessed C.
lol
-
how did you do the MC question about the linearly dependant vectors?
I guessed C.
lol
Hahaha same, no clue.
-
MC was ridiculously long. Analysis was ok, but there were some tricky questions (like finding the area in the complex numbers question...fkkk me I found many of the questions were non-standard too.
So glad Specialist is over though!!!
-
how did you do the MC question about the linearly dependant vectors?
I guessed C.
lol
I got m=4, made some shit up lol
-

lol
I got m=4, made some shit up lol
i got 1..
Yeah but how
-
Does anyone remember what MC 15 was....that was my prediction of the f-ed up question that was gonna be on the exam
-
if m=1 all the vectors were equal so they were linearly dependent
-
i got 1 as well...i think it was there to trip people up... :tickedoff:
-
damn,,, calculator stuck on last question, 10 mins doesnt even move!
-
yay 1/80 for me so far ..... sigh
-
good thing about the exam is that all the marks were well distributed across all the qs
-
if m=1 all the vectors were equal so they were linearly dependent
OMG...
so obvious now... ><
I didn't get that because i added u+v together so it was like
(m+1) i etc etc
and w had just i
so i was like 1+1 =2
not =1
but arghhhhh
-
hurry up itute i say.. solluuutttioonnnsssss
-
lol it was to determine the magnitute of the resulting force with two forces, northeast 4, and east 2.
I got 25+12root2Does anyone remember what MC 15 was....that was my prediction of the f-ed up question that was gonna be on the exam
Aww...that one wasn't TOO bad..
-
absolutely danieltennis..
did u guyz use pythag. for the last question??
-
absolutely danieltennis..
did u guyz use pythag. for the last question??
yeh did u get 1432m?
-
absolutely danieltennis..
did u guyz use pythag. for the last question??
yeah mate it was pythagoras, i dont remember my answer because i did that part first but it was around 1290 i believe.
-
Although a lot of people are saying it was easier than previous years, it seems the MC has stuffed up heaps of ppl and there were some tricky EA.
What do you think the cut off will be?
-
absolutely danieltennis..
did u guyz use pythag. for the last question??
yeah mate it was pythagoras, i dont remember my answer because i did that part first but it was above 1290 i believe.
yeah.. i think i got like 1296m
-

yeah thats the one

yeah thats the one
-
how bout the time taken for the one revolution of a spiral or something. did u have to calculate the period or something??
-
yeh i got ~1296 or some shit i cant remember too shattered yo
-

by the way, did anybody else have trouble solving 1200=......some t-equation....? i kept getting t=-3ish =S, ended up having to draw a graph to find intersection
all you needed to do was put in a domain after the equation... 0< t <360 was big enough for it to give you t=240 something seconds
-
Yes, 1296 is correct. Confirmed with others, we can't all be wrong.
Furthermore, I did not study for spec this year (almost at all, minus the work I did during the year) and I found this to be much easier than other past exams by VCAA. MUCH easier. It was not hard at all in comparison to the others, I honestly, for a person who is not that great at spec ( ie - if i studied, have potential for maybe 36-37 raw) thought it was easy - and i think those who studied well are not going to reap the benefits.
I don't think it is going to scale as well as last year either - unless we all here just think it was easy, but the rest of the crowd thinks it was hard?
-
how bout the time taken for the one revolution of a spiral or something. did u have to calculate the period or something??
Yeah I believe it was the period...
God damn that linear dependance one seems so easy now, that's what happens when you rush the MC
-
short answer was a gift of a section, however the Multiple choice was MUCH harder than the short answer. Overall an easy exam compared to other years however it was longer so believe it evens out. This was a test of how well you can use your calculator, nothing more. Obviously you have to know ur stuff but im sure you get what i mean.

I agree, I relied on my CAS much more than other practice exams..
-
i thought it was fcking hard cause im the non calculator person, any exam i woulda raped, but this calc one im pretty sure fcked me over. Every question you went along didn't give any indication if your solution was correct, so that felt pretty demoralising for me. But who knows, maybe i did get the right answers, But right now feeling depressed
-

yeah, most people in my school doing spesh said it was pretty hard.....but then again our school sux (10ppl doing spesh here LOL, and only 9 showed up)

fcking spot on mate Zzzz
-
guyz... to keep your sanity in check, i suggest that you stay away from the solutions for a while. i know many of you, including myself will be beating ourselves up for some atrocious mistakes made in that exam. we must remain confident heading into our next set of exams (although its methods for many of us:) ) so that we can come out on top.
best of luck to you all
-

Same for our school, everyone thought it was hard (5 people) although they all showed up haha. Why didn't that person show up doesn't that mean they fail VCE?
-
Solutionnsss???!
-
did anyone else get pi/12 as the area for the complex number question?
-
but if i dont check solutions i might die from thinking i did shit, but on the other hand if i did do shit im gonna fcking die too LOL
-
Why didn't that person show up doesn't that mean they fail VCE?
i think she'll just get UG for GA3 section, and get a real crap score
-
Hey guys,
what did you get for q6b extended response? Did you get 22.8 < theta < 33.3 for the range of degrees so that the box can remain stationary on the incline?
-
I think it depends on which school unleast you are a naturally SMART MATHS KIDS....my school is UNDER REPRESENTED school......therefore.....we all found it hard..........
-
I hope the cut off is similar to last years :[
-
i got pi/4 :S
-
Hey guys,
what did you get for q6b extended response? Did you get 22.8 < theta < 33.3 for the range of degrees so that the box can remain stationary on the incline?
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
lol

dont scare me like that

i got pi/4 :S
yeah I did aswell!
-
Hey guys,

shit i got 33.3 < theta < 66.6
was 4 marks yeh?
i shud get 2?
-
i got pi/4 :S
yeah I did aswell!
how????
-
Hey guys,
what did you get for q6b extended response? Did you get 22.8 < theta < 33.3 for the range of degrees so that the box can remain stationary on the incline?
yeah thats what i got
werent there only 5 extended response qs??
-

Sounds about right.

umm I think u missed the page after question 5, the one with the conveyor belt
-
i got pi/4 :S
yeah I did aswell!
area of the donut was pi(R^2 - r^2) = 3pi
then the required area was 1/12 of this, which is pi/4
how????
-

Yeah I couldn't solve it on my calculator so I had to graph it
-
i think you are all lying and trying to scare us coz i turned the page after 5 and there was no 6 AND the cover said 5 extended response questions!
-
rofl..
google --> define: gullible
-
Damn lost 2 marks.
z.z.z.
-
22 MC=22 MARKS
EX response 58 MARKS about 10-13 MARkS for each questions.......all i can remember

-
It was an "easy" paper.
Esp. in comparison to last year's.
But I f*cked up so bad.
=(
-
How are people says it was easy.... I honestly thought it was harder than last year's!
-
Hehe , really........haha............hey , do u think the exam was easy? Coz my classmates and I found it hard....

-
I thought it was long-ish.
-
The question
, where u had to find domain and range what did ppl get, 3.1 for domain or 3.2?
-
i had 3.2
-
I think after rounding it was 3.2, but I was high at the time so I cant remember.
-
3.2 dont stress me over9000
-
The question
, where u had to find domain and range what did ppl get, 3.1 for domain or 3.2?
i got b=.3 and a=3.2 (answer was 3.178)
-
Had a look over my teachers solutions, I think the only marks I lost were on the area of that complex region, some reason I worked out the length of the side. I found the exam pretty straightforward, MC section was longer than past papers, I wouldn't say harder. EA section was fine, I only freaked out on the very last bit when I found t=-3.something, so I had to sketch it to find correct answer.
-
3.2 dont stress me over9000
this sentence doesnt even make sense. read before write you are to going ok?
-

I have to agree with kurry, I asked what you guys got so if thet stressed u athrun then thats pretty much ur problem.
-
for the last question..i found the horizontal part and forgot to find the hypotenuse of the right angle triangle....how many marks am i going to lose?...2?...

what about the last part for question one where it asked what time the car caught the motorcycle? anyone remember what they got?

something along the lines of 20.8?

ahaha one of the smartest guys Ive seen. You must have aced spesh.

quite a few mhs kids thought it was harder than last yr...hopefully A+ cutoff low-mid 60s

the last question.... the boat dropped that thing into the sea.. and we are required to find the distance between them
-
okay^^ i see what u talking about,, my GC stuck and couldnt work out t

Thats really in the eye of the beholder.

It was a bit too calculator reliant. Rushed the MC so don't know whether I made weird silly mistakes. Also would've liked more mechanics. Overall I think the length makes it a bit harder than last year. I think it is more difficult to get full marks as a result. I know a few smart kids who had to guess a couple of MCs at the end so...
-
quite a few mhs kids thought it was harder than last yr...hopefully A+ cutoff low-mid 60s
I hope so ;), that would be mad.
Yeah I got owned in MC. Made a few guesses just to realise on the way out that they were wrong :[
-
Yes I had trouble on the last question as well for a while. To do the last question using the solve function on the calculator you needed to restrict the domain of t when solving the equation in solve. e.g. 200 < t < 300 because you know t will be around 200-300 seconds. If you don't do this, it will only find solutions of t close to 0 (t = -3.10...) and will tell you "Warning: more solutions may exist". This is because it cannot search for all solutions from -infinity to +infinity values of t.
-
Yeah when I got that I just decided to graph it and find the intersection using that
-
will i get method marks, for using that value of t=3.11(for some stupid reason) and then using pythag to find the side??
-
does any know the A + cut off last year?
-
Last year the A+ cut off was 66/80
I suggest it will be probably be about 67-68 this year in my opinion
Here is the grade distribution for last year : http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/statistics/2008/section3/vce_specialist_maths_ga08.pdf
-
Damn it I think I got about 70-72, there goes 40+...
-
Sorry can i ask that what grade do u need to get ......in order to get around low 30
-
It would depend on how you went in sacs and also in exam 1 as these could adversely affect your study score if they were much different relative to your score in exam 2 but I would suggest you would be aiming for a mid-range B to get about 31 or 32, so about 45 or so out of 80.
-
ok thanks ^^

i lost between 7 and 10 marks i think, im pretty pleased :)
-
does anyone know whether you would be penalised for putting in asymptotes on the graph which is only defined between y = -10 and 10. i wasn't sure what to do as no part of the curve actually approaches an aysmptote but i put them in anyway. also i didn't label L and |z| = 2 on the argand diagram; the question didnt say sketch and label, it just said sketch; any suggestions?
-
I put asymptote I think. I guess the graph doesn't extend to infinities so it might not be appropriate but graph shows asymptotic behaviour right? Argh, I don't know.
-
yeah thinking about it, it definately doesn't show asymptotic behaviour on the restricted domain, but im not sure whether we would be penalised
-
RAGE wanted more mechanics :(
Anyone here think A+ cutoff will be lower?
Also for SS concerns, heard someone got a B for E1 and A for E2 and got a 37, dont know about SACs.
Would a 40 be possible with A+ SACs, A+ on E1 and high A on E2?
-

Do you reckon getting a B+ in exam 1 and getting A+ in Exam 2 and A for SAC's(not moderated yet) can get you low 40's RAW?
-
If i got scores of 39/40 and 64/80 plus high A on SAC's, what study score will i possibly achieve?

Lol, this again. Well you know that if you wait until december 14th or 15th, you will know exactly how you went and what you got.
