sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to ask, but alot of people at my school have been saying that 35% is considered a pass in mainstream English. I was wondering if this was true and if so does it also apply to English Language?
again, sorry if I'm not posting in the correct place, forums aren't really my forte.

Nothing to apologise for - you have found the right place and even you hadn't we understand it can be a bit confusing at first.
I think that where people are getting that from is that a study score of 35 in English is the English prerequisite for some courses. A study score of 35 and an average percentage of 35 on assessments are very different things. Study scores are out of 50 and a study score of 35 puts you (approximately) in the top quarter of the state for that subject. Usually the 35 in English prerequisite is for courses that are more competitive to get into, often the benchmark for other courses is a study score of 25 in English.
However, even a study score below 25 isn't truly failing. Whether or not you fail a subject is decided by your school teachers on the basis of whether or not you have demonstrated the learning outcomes. There's no set percentage score for this and if you show low marks on an assessment your teachers may provide you with options like resitting or providing classwork & homework you have completed throughout the year as evidence of you meeting the outcomes. This is something that would be a discussion between you and your teacher. If you are concerned about failing I recommend talking to your teacher about this (even though that might be a bit intimidating) so they can help you come up with a strategy for how you'll avoid that.
