Yo everyone
After reading everyone's VCE Journal and being stuck in quarantine, I decided that it would probs be a good idea to start my own VCE Journal since I've got a lot of time even though it's pretty late.
I'm currently in Year 12 and doing 5 subjects. I did 3/4 Geography last year as my early entry subject and got a 41 which I was quite surprised about since my Sac results weren't amazing.
Current Subjects:
English
Methods
Chemistry
Biology
Psychology
Here are some of my goals for this year:
I'm aiming for a 98.5 atar although deep down, I hope for a low - mid 99 atar. I hope to get into Medicine at Monash which is my dream course although I'm also considering Bachelor of Science, Biomed, Physio or Optometry.
English:
I've done 2 Sacs for far but I haven't got my results back due to Covid and schools being closed. Regardless, I'm alright at English and enjoy it to an extent however I find it's harder to study for English than my other subjects just because its more open-ended and creative. Aiming for a 43+ study score for English just cause it's in Top 4.
Methods
I hate Methods with a passion and I'm only doing this subject for prereqs for some of the courses I'm interested in. I pre much failed 1/2 Methods so not expecting much for this subject. Aiming for a 30 although would be really happy with a 35. Don't really care though since this is gonna be in my bottom 2.
Chemistry
I found 1/2 Chem quite difficult but 3/4 Chem has been slightly better. Despite this, I was pretty lazy for term 1 and stuffed up my first Chem Sac. Was a pretty depressing experience but I've decided that I still want to try and do well in this subject. Aiming for roughly a 42+ study score.
Biology
This is probs my 2nd favorite subject. Despite certain parts of Biology being rather boring like Photosynthesis and not caring much for it in Term 1, I'm determined for this subject to reach my Top 4. Once I understand the concepts, it is actually alright. Haven't had any Sacs for bio yet so I've still got a pretty clean slate to work with. Aiming for a 45+ study score.
Psychology
This is my favorite subject and I'm really enjoying it so far. Did Year 10 Psych and really enjoyed and kinda regretted not choosing 1/2 Psych tho it's not that relevant to 3/4. I'm finding Psych to be pre relevant to school and life in general which other subjects I do don't exactly do except maybe Bio. I have done a Sac for Psych and got a pretty decent result although I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't have gotten higher because I made a few dumb mistakes. Regardless, aiming for a 45+ study score.
I will try and post weekly. How's everyone dealing with VCE during this Corona pandemic?

Welcome to the Atarnotes!
It is never to late to start a journal, quite a few have been made a month before exams start, so you could think of yourself as early to the party. Awesome subject selection! Mine is quite similar except I didn't do geography and I am doing food studies instead of psych.
I believe we may be the same person in methods, I despise that subject so much, but a 35 would still be an awesome score!
I think alot people have screwed up their first SAC in one subject or another, I did in chem as well, so lets hope it just gets better throughout the year!
Bio was awesome so i'm glad you're enjoying it. Do you have any hobbies you do on the side? What are you doing with your spare time at the moment?
Looking forward to more updates.

Haha thanks! Yeah I despise methods so much. Bio is pre good so far! In terms of hobbies, I like reading, watching Netflix, playing games with friends, playing Tennis (haven't been able to cause Lockdown tho :( ) and I just started clarinet this year. In my spare time, usually just watch Youtube , Netflix, Chicago Med and I've been working out everyday. What about you?

Hi ThunderDragon!! ;D
Welcome to the very addictive, VCE Journey Journals where once you start, you definitely won't be stopping anytime soon🤣.
I love the different subjects you have picked and your goals for them too ;D. Is there a reason you want to do medicine in the future? (or like similar sciences?)
Either way, I'm really looking forward to seeing new journal entry updates in the future ;D

Thanks! Yeah already addicting. Haha I thought my subject choices are rather similar except for Geo which could be considered different. Cliche as it may sound, the reason why I want to become a doctor is I just enjoy helping people. Kinda exacerbated by my positive experience at work experience in a hospital and my enjoyment for life sciences. What do you wan to do after high school?

That's great to see that work experience helped decide possible areas of work in the future! ;D
After high school, I really want to keep studying maths, science and design so I'm thinking right now to do engineering? I've been tossing both electrical and biomedical engineering for a while now (I'm leaning towards electrical more as it has a lot more physics going on). There is always a weird thought at the back of my head telling me to become a teacher though too which I think might actually happen in the future. I'm 100% positive I would like to do something STEM-related in the future but for right now, I think I'll just pick something that has the stuff I want to study and just see where life takes me;D.

Welcome to ATARNotes ThunderDragon!
That's a nice VCE choice overall. I'm doing similar subjects to you, except I did psych last year, and I cooked it, ooft, but it's alright cuz I have my other subjects to boost my ATAR. I'm currently doing four of the Asian 5, apart from physics, and I'm striving to get 98+ for my ATAR (I'd be thrilled if I get 99+ tho), just for my satisfaction. I'm not going for med cuz I'm TERRIBLY bad at dealing with gore, so I can't perform any dissections unfortunately. I'm still deciding with my uni preferences, and I'm still sitting on the fence between BSc. at UoM (pharmacology / bioengineering - leaning more towards bioengineering cuz it's more diverse) OR double BSc. (major: pharmacology) and BE (major: materials or mechatronics engineering) at Monash (had to underline them just to avoid confusion). I want to become a bioengineer, a researcher in drugs and mental health, and perhaps a writer.
Tbh, I kinda do regret my VCE choices cuz they're not v well rounded, so I would instead do literature (I'm a fan of classic books, especially cuz the language captures me a lot, and I enjoy writing. I actually wanna do BA too, but I'm already planning to do double degrees, might do it in the future tho), chem (one of my fav subjects), methods, spesh (another fav subject), glopo (I like politics and I care about justice, but don't ask me anything about it cuz I haven't been bothered with keeping up with it for ages, oops lmao), and probs psych (p interesting - it has changed my perception of the society a lot tbh, but not much of a memory person, more of a logic person).
Not sure what else to say, but good luck with VCE and your future endeavours!
From mi-xao-14 (you already know who I am from the beginning lmao, but dun expose me pls, kamsahamnida) ^^

Hey ThunderDragon!
Looks like we have 4 similar subjects! Same though! Isn't Psychology absolutely amazing? ;D What's your favourite topic so far? I really loved Stress and the Nervous System but Learning is okay as well. :P
What are your favourite Netflix shows to watch?
It was nice to meet you and I can't wait to follow along on your VCE Journey! ;D
-
Hey!
Looks like your doing all the subjects I’m doing! I also hate methods too. I really love the rest though. Are you sitting the UCAT was well? And is your school doing at home SACs?

Yeah Psych is good! Mine's probs Nervous System tho Learning isn't bad. I don't really watch Netflix shows but mainly movies. Tho I do enjoy watching Chicago Med which is on 9Now

Hey!
Looks like your doing all the subjects I’m doing! I also hate methods too. I really love the rest though. Are you sitting the UCAT was well? And is your school doing at home SACs?
Haha yeah methods sucks. Yeah I'm sitting the UCAT. Nah our school pre much postponed Sacs tho we're just doing tasks which equate to an S/N and may be used incase of derived study score.
-
Haha thanks!
I'm a bit of a reader when I get the time, what do you read? I am a huge scifi/fantasy fan, I love Brandon Sandersan's books and lee bardugo. Yeah, I think most sports have been put on hold, I haven't played sports in ages, but I use to do basketball. Youtube takes up most of my free time, this doesn't make me feel productive, but there is just so much content to watch and I end up going down rabbit holes at 3 am in the morning. Like on Monday night, I started researching sourdough starters, and I didn't get to sleep till 4....
I haven't watched much TV, I watch Brooklyn 99 from time to time, and I have only really watched one movie this year, being the first Star Trek film in the robot. I wish I had you motivation to work out everyday!

I usually like reading generic teenage books or Scifi. Probs favorite books are Hunger Games though Lockwood and Co is also another series I really enjoyed. Yeah youtube can be good and bad. Haha I only really started working out because of lockdown but today I've just ordered fries and been surfing on Youtube so broke my chain of working out days in a row.

Update 1 26/04/2020
This isn't going to be a stereotypical update just cause I haven't done much in terms of work because of procrastination, stress, anxiety, and loneliness (thanks a lot corona) so I'm just gonna update you guys on what I hope to achieve by next week. I plan to do the major updates each Monday.
English:
I don't really have much planned out for English for this week. I need to finish my Rear Window Questions which are due tomorrow night but besides that, I'm probs just gonna do the assigned work that our school will give us tomorrow and nothing more.
Methods:
As much as I hate this subject, I actually need to start getting a grip on it and doing work. I'm roughly 6 chapters behind and probs not even going to crack a 25 at this point. I plan to complete Chapter 1 Functions and Relations and Chapter and Chapter 2 Geometry and Matrices from the Cambridge Textbook even though we use Quest just cause I heard it's better. Might also do a bit of Trig cause doing that with my tutor and it's not as bad as the rest of the topics.
Chemistry
Been procrastinating a lot with this subject so I need to get a handle on this subject as well. Aiming to do all the Chapter exercises and reviews for Redox, Galvanic and Fuel Cells by the end of the week and also create notes for these topics. My motivation for this subject has fallen down a lot after my first Sac but I'm still gonna try espesh since I don't know how Sacs would be weighted due to Corona.
Biology
Actually doing decently in this subject. Been watching some Edrolo and going through the content with my tutor makes things so much easier. Aiming to finish watching Edrolo for Cellular Respiration, complete notes for Energy transformation in cells, complete questions from the Heinemann textbook for Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration cause Nelson book is trash and if I have time, maybe do some Biozone. Still have high hopes for this subject cause haven't had any Sacs yet.
Psychology
I should study more for this subject espesh if I want to do really well for this subject. Having slight difficulty with Operant Conditioning for some reason so I need to review that a bit. Probs just going to complete the work that our school sets us which is a couple of learning activities from the textbook but also probs going to watch some Edrolo videos for Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning and Observational Learning.
UCAT
Have done very little practice so far kinda getting stressed since its only around 2 and 3 weeks away for me. Aiming to finish watching all the Medify videos and complete all the Medify modules this week so I can get a grip on the strategies behind it first. Also aiming to push in some practice questions as well.
In terms of extra-curricular, aim to work out for at least 60 minutes a day (actually kinda been doing that these last few weeks one fo the few things I've had routine for) and spend 30 minutes practicing Clarinet.
Hoping to get out of this cycle of sitting around and doing no work. I'll probs update you guys on Friday about how I've been going and maybe do these what I plan to do updates on Mondays. I hope everyone has been doing okay during online schooling.

Yeah it really sucks, but we'll all get through it eventually. All the best with productivity! It's so hard sometimes, but planning out what you want to achieve throughout the week will help, good luck!

Yes! If there is one subject you should love it's definitely biology because it is 100% the best subject! Edrolo is really good with explaining concepts so I would encourage you to keep at it. Good luck for your first SAC!

This is so GOOD, I wish I had the motivation to work out for an hour each day, I hardly manage 30 minutes. You've inspired me and I'll try to do better this week.
Looking forward to the next update 8)

Are we the same person? The methods sac is so soon and I’m also doubting whether I can get a 25. I have 3 weeks to get everything we’ve done so far together. But don’t give up! The fact that you’ve acknowledged there’s work to be done is a step in the right direction! I’m assuming you haven’t had a sac yet....don’t count yourself out!

Yo good luck on your methods Sac. Yeah we just got our Sac project this week for methods but I have no idea whether it contributes to our study score or not.

Mid - Week Update
Kinda bored so why not update you guys on what I've been up to so far and plans for the rest of the week. One new study technique update I made is that I'm trying out the Pomodoro technique with a slight twist. I plan to complete 4 25 minute and 5-minute rest study blocks before being followed by a long 30-minute break and then repeating the cycle. Tried it today but got disrupted by a few things. Gonna experiment with this for the rest of this week and see if it is productive for me or nah.
English
I haven't done an awful lot however I did manage to finish my part of Chapter 9 Rear Window Questions since we have an English Call tomorrow and I want to be prepared just in case I get called by my English teacher. Besides that, haven't really done much and not really planning to do anything else for English this week.
Methods
Kinda disappointed in myself but haven't done much except look at the SAC project questions that they gave us this week. Not sure whether this will even contribute to our study score or not cause teacher's been kinda vague about it. I guess the aim is to finish this Sac before the due date of next Monday and also do questions from Chapter 1 of the Cambridge textbook.
Chemistry
Managed to finish Chapter 4 tho left a few of the last questions of the Chapter review blank. Planning to complete the Galvanic Chapter exercises, review, Fuel Cells chapter and have a watch of Electrolysis Edrolo vids for the rest of this week. Still behind but aiming to catch up by the end of this week.
Biology
Finished watching Cellular Respiration Edrolo so far. Planning to start doing textbook questions and completing Biozone for Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration. Currently where I need to be so not too fussed on time.
Psychology
Completed half of my Psych homework so far. Need to finish the remaining bit of my homework which is on Observational Learning. Planning to also watch some Edrolo vids on Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning and Observational Learning.
UCAT
Haven't done anything at all so far this week and kinda stressing out since my UCAT is only 2 and a half months away. Need to grind this for the rest of this week.
-
Not really an official update but pretty pissed with the 'revised' study design changes.
English:
I don't know how I feel about this new update. Haven't got either my two Sacs I've done for English so no idea whether the increase in weighting is a good thing or bad thing for Unit 3. Probs bad but we'll see. Kinda glad Oral is gone tho.
Methods:
Glad Statistics and lot of Probability is gone.
Chemistry:
Super mad about the new increased weighting of Unit 3. That just means my shit first Chem SAC contributes more than it used to. Also mad they removed a lot of Food Chem. Only good thing is the removal of some things like Mass Spec.
Biology:
Like Chem kinda mad with the new increased weighting of Unit 3. Haven't done any SACs so not awfully mad but still. Removal of lots of evolution stuff is kinda good.
Psychology:
Like Chem also very mad because of the increased weighting of Unit 3. While my SAC wasn't bad at all, it just makes getting a 45+ slightly harder. The removal of half of Mental Health really triggers me though cause that actually looked interesting.
Not sure how VCAA thinks this is gonna cause less stress but I guess nothing can be done about it. How is everyone else finding the revised study design changes?

WHATTTT I just saw the revised study designs how come no one told me :P

Methods I don’t care cause that was a shit show anyway.
Psych I’m a bit bummed cause I like the subject but my first meh sac is now worth more but the last good sac I did t now worth 2.5% instead of 2% lol.
Chem- so mad because those two bad SACs I did are now worth 10% not 8% and my plan to make a comeback in unit 4 is useless bc unit 4= unit 3.
Bio- I did great in unit 3 sac at school so it’s worth more yay. But the sac I did on Monday which I think I failed is also worth more :(
I never really liked the idea of English oral and am glad no more science experiment sacs!!!!! For all the sciences
Too much detail lol
-

Lol I just saw people post about it on Facebook and decided to check the sad news.

Yeah I think a lot of ppl are mad about Chem. Guess we just have to deal with this crap that VCAA decided to throw on us.

Week 4 Update
English
Finished my part of the group questions for Chapter 9 Rear Window. Not really an achievement since it was 3 questions and took 30 minutes.
Planning to just complete whatever work my teacher has set cause we've only been on Rear Window for a week or so.
Methods
Didn't really do much except I've pretty much finished our SAC Project thing which is due tomorrow afternoon so that's a + sign. I don't even know if it counts to our study score or not but regardless, don't really care too much.
Planning to complete a couple of worksheets that my tutor gave me on Trigonometry and also going to do some ones we did on Linear because I suck. Also planning to watch 15 minutes of Methods Edrolo each day from the start of the course and slowly catch up.
Chemistry
Completed Chapter 4 Redox exercises and completed Exercise 5.1 and partway through 5.2 in Galvanic Cells. I am behind but doesn't matter too much cause no Sacs for Chem until we get back to school.
Planning to finish Chapter 5 Galvanic Cells, create notes on Redox and Galvanic, watch VolkScience videos for Fuel Cells, Electrolysis and Faraday's Law and complete Exercise 6.1 as well as Chapter 9 exercises. Like Methods, also planning to watch 15 minutes of Chemistry Edrolo each day from Redox and slowly catch up as well.
Biology
Finished Edrolo videos for Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration and completed some Photosynthesis questions from Checkpoints. Surprisingly this is my favorite subject at the moment.
Planning to make notes for Photosynthesis/Cellular Respiration, complete Biozone for Photosynthesis/Cellular Respiration, complete Energy transformations questions and chapter review from the Heinemann Textbook(additional textbook cause Nelson textbook sucks shit), watch Cellular signals on Edrolo, complete Cellular signals questions and chapter review from the Heinemann textbook as well as work our teacher has assigned us. Finding some similarities with Psych atm.
Psychology
Complete all the Learning activities that my teacher has assigned and we are now done with Learning.
Planning to watch Edrolo videos for Learning cause unsure of a few concepts, complete Workbook activities for Learning Activity, complete activities 1 - 4 from 'The Psych Book' and also make notes on Learning.
UCAT
Done about an hour of UCAT this whole week so kinda failed at it.
Planning to finish watching the SJT Video and complete all the Medify modules and start practising some questions properly.
That's all for this upcoming week. Will probs update mid week sometime.

Week 5 Update
It's been another week and here's an update on things have gone the last week and plans for this upcoming week. Productive wise, haven't done much because I started watching this Netflix Kdrama ''Crash Landing On You'' and like many Netflix shows, you get addicted and binge-watched the show in 3 days (30 hours). Highly recommend the show but probs not a good idea to start watching Netflix shows during VCE tho.
English
Completed most of the chapters that our school assigned us for Rear Window although I've got about 2 or so more Chapter questions to complete before it's due tomorrow night.
For this week, I am aiming to complete 1 essay prompt that our teacher has provided us on Rear Window. Also aiming to complete a Language Analysis practice essay that my tutor has provided.
Methods
Our first formative SAC has been submitted. I would say I'm rather alright with how I felt I did although the last section was a bit dodgy and I feel as though my curve was a bit off. The teacher says this will either contribute nothing or very little to SAC 1 so not really worried on how well I do. As long as I didn't fail, then I'm all good.
For this week, I am aiming to complete some worksheets on Trigonometry as well as go back on some things about Linear and Basic Functions.
Chemistry
I can't exactly remember what I have done for Chem this week but I did some things that helped me understand Redox and Galvanic Cells a bit more.
For this week, I am aiming to complete textbook Chapter Review questions for Redox, Galvanic, and Fuel Cells as well as some exercises that I forgot to complete for Galvanic Cells. Also aiming to watch all the VolkScience videos on Electrolysis and Faraday's Law as well as complete the textbook exercises for Electrolysis. My tutor also gave me a whole bunch of worksheets from Redox to Electrolysis which I need to complete :(
Biology
Haven't actually done a lot for Bio. Had to complete the Chapter 4 Chapter Review questions but pretty much rushed through them because the questions were pretty crap and I wanted to continue watching my Kdrama.
For this week, I am aiming to complete textbook questions and Chapter Review for Energy transformations in Cells from the Heinemann Textbook (another textbook) as well as Biozone for Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration. Also planning to watch Edrolo videos for Cellular Signals and Intro to Antigens, Heinemann Cellular Signal questions and bizone for Cellular Signals.
Psychology
Besides completing the set learning activities from our teacher, haven't done much either.
For this week, I am aiming to create notes for Learning, complete workbook activities for Learning and some activities from 'The Psych Book' based on Learning. Also aiming to watch all the Memory videos on Edrolo.
UCAT
Still mad that I haven't done anything new for this. Hoping to start finishing the tips and tricks and start practicing.
Hopefully I won't be distracted by Netflix this time and can get some work done. Also waiting for the school update tmr by Dan Andrews cause heard speculations that schools back in 2 weeks.

Update
Hey everyone, it's been about a month since I updated mainly due to stress, going back to school, and feeling tired in general. Here's an update on what's happened so far.
English:
I still haven't gotten back my Argument Analysis and Creative SAC back yet so I have no idea how well I'm doing and whether I will end up getting a 20 in English or a 50 or somewhere in between. I have a Rear Window Text Response SAC in a couple of weeks which I should probs start studying and writing essays for soon. I'm just gonna pretend that I failed the first two sacs as a way to boost up my motivation on preparing for this next English SAC.
Methods:
Still hate this subject with passion. We completed 2 Formative SACS and I think I did alright although I don't think they count or count much towards my study score so I'm not really concerned about what I will get. Our official SAC for Unit 3 is in the 2nd or 3rd week of Term 3 so it's still a long way off however I'm still about half a year behind so either way, i'm stuffed.
Chemistry:
I got my first Chem SAC back a few days ago and was pretty disappointed with my Chem marks. I got 65% even though the average was around 80%. Having serious doubts about doing decently or well in this subject but I guess since the next Chem SAC is next term, I still have time and a chance to pull things around.
Biology:
Somehow this subject has become my favorite subject. My first Bio SAC is in about 1.5 weeks on Antigens, Cellular Signals and Immunity and slightly nervous but I shall start cramming for the SAC about a week before the SAC.
Psychology:
Super stressed about this subject. I just received my first Psych SAC mark and got 90% (45/50) but I felt really disappointed because the average was around 86% and I kinda wanted to be well above the average. This has caused me to become really stresed about the next Psych Sac (in a few days time) as I am aiming for 100%. This subject is decently easy in content however our cohort for Psych is extremely competitive (pre much everyone is really good) and losing a few dumb marks means you could easily fall below the median.
UCAT:
My UCAT is exactly 6 weeks away and I feel so stuffed about it. I need to do more practice and mocks.
Update on New Study Score Goals:
English: Raw 41 - 45 (Most likely will change when I receive my first 2 Sac marks back in about a week or two)
Methods: Raw 25 - 29 (Almost given up at this point)
Chemistry: Raw 40 - 44 (This one is definetly going to be a hard goal for me)
Biology: Raw 48 - 50 (Still possible but could change after my first SAC)
Psychology: Raw 48 - 50 (Still possible but I need to make sure I don't lose any more dumb marks on the next few Sacs)
UCAT: 90 Percentile + (This is just a pain)

Mini - Update
This isn't a proper update but just got a few things I wanted to update you guys on and release from my chest.
First thing is, I got my first Psych SAC back on Nervous System and Stress and I got 45/50. It's alright since it's slightly above median but also slightly disappointed that I didn't get higher. Just completed my Learning and Memory SAC a few days ago and have been worrying about it since. Really aimed for Full Marks but knowing Psych and the amount of dumb mistakes everyone makes in this subject, I don't think I got 100%.
I have my Bio SAC on Antigens, Cellular Signals and Immunity. Kinda worried cause ideally I want to lose as little marks as possible since it's my first Bio SAC and I want to have a good start. Anyone have any tips on how to study for a Bio SAC? It's in around 5 - 6 days and my plan so far is doing posters, Checkpoints, ATARNotes Topic Tests and a Prac SAC. I don't know if I should do the Heinemann Bio questions or whether that's just a waste of time.
In terms of UCAT Practice, I wish I had more resilience to do more. I've only done about 2000 questions so far and my UCAT is in about 5 weeks. I'm averaging like 600 in everything except VR which I'm averaging around 650 - 700. Very much worried about this. I hate Abstract Reasoning and Decision Making so much.
-
A little update on UCAT, I did a VR, DM, QR and AR Mini Mock and was actually not disappointed with my scores for once. I managed to get an 800 for VR, 650 for DM, 630 for QR and 650 for AR. This equates to around 82nd percentile. Although it probably isn't good enough to get into Monash Med, I've still got a few weeks left and just need to get my shit together and focus on the maths related sections cause I suck at maths.
We're getting back our Psych and English Sacs next week. Honestly, was aiming for 50/50 for Psych SAC but knowing Psych and how everyone makes dumb mistakes, I highly doubt it would happy. Still anxious and hope that I can get at least a 47 or 48/50. As for English, have very low hopes for this. My teacher told our class that 1/4 of the class got either Cs or C+s and I don't see myself getting anything higher than that. My Argumentative Analysis was very rushed since I spent too long planning and I didn't get to finish my conclusion. Very much worried about this Sac since English is a Top 4 subject. Anyway, this upcoming week could be tough with getting these two Sacs back and also having to do my first Bio SAC.
-
Hey ThunderDragon!
(By the way, I love reading your journal it is so interesting)
Thanks for putting a new update up and you can do this! Keep at the work and try your best to enjoy the moment ;D.
Good luck with your Bio SAC next week, I'm sure that you will be fine and do amazing in it. Have some faith in yourself!
Don't worry too much about the SACs you are getting back this week. I'm pretty positive you did great and even if they are not what you would have liked, it's a great learning experience. ;D
You will be absolutely fine! Enjoy the rest of the weekend ThunderDragon! :)
-
Haha thanks ashmi! Really appreciate it!
-
Just got my English Argumentative Analysis SAC back and got 17/20 or 85%. Was definitely expecting lower however the average was quite high at around 80% so still could've done better. Somehow an 85% is a B+ and an A is 95% so Idk what the hell is up with the ground boundaries. Have my Bio SAC tomorrow and feel kinda unprepared. Might pull a semi all nighter. Not gonna be fun.
-

Best of luck with Bio! You'll smash it, ThunderDragon. I have my Chem SAC tomorrow so looks like a joint late night for us both. I did a Bio SAC today too - but not on immunity.
Be proud of your English score - above average, and at a very competitive school, is massive! Super proud of you.

I know i'm posting a lot but I had to rant about this. Just finished my Biology U3 AOS 2 Sac (First Sac for some reason) and I think I failed it so badly. It was so diagram and image based and I had mental blanks during the SAC. Not to mention that the article which was related to a question worth around 6 - 7 marks was at the back of the graphic organised sheet and no one told us it was behind it. To be fair, should've really flipped it but it was A3 and did not expect it to be behind it. It was also out of 75 why so much. Pretty sure I got below
40/75 and now I'm depressed that I won't even be able to crack a 40.

Hey ThunderDragon! Congrats on completing such a huge SAC! You did the best you could and that's what matters! Even if you don't score as highly as you might have hoped all it does is show you how to succeed! Keep your head up and keep pushing! VCE regards those who work hard!

Thanks J_Rho! I guess the exam is what really matters and I've still got a few more Sacs left.

Hey ThunderDragon! :D
Congratulations on completing your first biology SAC!
Yeah, that feeling after doing a sac is the worst but I know you'll get through it! Plus, you haven't gotten your marks back yet, so you never know...maybe you did better than you expected.
It's only your first SAC and as you've said you still have 4 more left plus the exam so you have plenty of opportunities to redeem yourself!! Don't lose hope because with perseverence, I know you can achieve your goal!

Just got a couple of Sacs back and just sat my Text Response SAC today on Rear Window.
I'll start with the only positive which is that I got my Psych SAC 2 back and got 46/50 which is a 92%. Decently alright with it although I missed a few points which with a bit of extra reading on the scenario, could've easily been improved. Regardless, I'm ok with it.
Onto the negatives. Completed my English Text Response SAC today. Walked in hoping for an A/A+ but walked out hoping for at least a B. There were two prompts and I chose the first one like most people however I felt as though I answered the prompt in a weird way and rambled on about random garbage that my teacher is gonna have a headache reading about. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the 2nd prompt is much easier even though at the time, it seemed more foreign. Honestly, very disappointed since I've never really gotten below a B+ for English in VCE 1/2 or 3/4 so far however it's pretty unlikely for me to get a B+ or higher.
UCAT is in about 3 weeks and I'm pretty scared. This test is worth the same amount as my ATAR and my results aren't exactly amazing. I guess I still have some time to grind UCAT but it's pre stressful.

Week 1 Holidays Update
Little update so far. This holidays, I am primarily going to be focusing on UCAT. This includes spending around 8 - 10 hours each day doing UCAT (kill me now). Also going to be doing some study for Bio with my SAC in the first week (ofc it would be 3 days before my UCAT) and Psych homework but the bulk will be UCAT stuff. Here is a section by section breakdown of the UCAT so far.
Verbal Reasoning
I will say that this section is actually decent. I've been consistently getting scores between 700 - 800 recently without an awful amount of practice. Still need to do some practice because I hope to crack past 800. Got a 750 for my recent mock so I'm alright with it.
Decision Making
This section is pretty hard and I've been getting very mixed results of between 400 - 700 so not feeling awfully great about it. Definitely need to do some more practice. Got 500 - 600 in a recent mock which is kinda bad ngl.
Quantitative Reasoning
Hate this section cause it's maths related. Can only finish around 20 questions out of the 36 in the allotted time. Mainly due to my limited practice so I guess the solution is to practice but it's super boring and tedious. Got 600 in a mock which is kinda meh but I guess i'm slowly improving.
Abstract Reasoning
What a mixed boat this is. Sometimes the pattern is very obvious and other times it gives me a headache. Did a mock and got 630 which I'm rather sad about since I was fairly confident and was definitely expecting a 700 so need to look at my mistakes.
Situational Judgement
I enjoy this section. I speed through this section way too quickly tho since I finish with 15 minutes on the clock. Got Band 1 in my recent mock so pretty happy but still need a bit more improvement.
Overall, the recent mock I did I got 60th percentile in. Not great but I guess this is before my next 2 week study blitz so we'll see what scores I'll be getting later. Honestly I hope for a 95th percentile but I'd be happy with a 90.
-
Wow 7-8 hours a day!!!! Your amazing! I thought I was doing heaps doing 1-2 per day :(
You’ll definitely get that 90th percentile!!!!!!

Great to see your dedication and persistence! I just want to point out quality>quantity. 8-10 hours is A LOT (I don't even think I'm awake for that long LOL) and you might find yourself getting burnt out very quickly. I also doubt it will help you in the long-term, and it's best to take it bit by bit. UCAT takes quite a lot of brainpower and you might feel mentally strained if you're doing it for that long continuously, so remember to take breaks and ensure that you aren't getting tired/the quality of your preparation is not decreasing over time.
Good luck!

haha nah I think I'm going to cut it to 6 - 7 hours a day just so I don't burn out. Thanks! Good luck to you too!

Update - 24/07/2020
Hey everyone. It's been a while since I updated my journal mainly busy with studying for the UCAT haha. I will try and update this journal every 1 - 2 weeks now that UCAT is over. In regards to UCAT, I didn't do too amazing and actually a bit disappointed since I got 84th - 85th Percentile although it is still possible to get into med albeit ATAR is now much more important now and I've got to work hard.
English
Honestly, I'm doing very average in this subject having previously received a B+ and an A for my first two sacs. Got my text response Sac back today and got a B+. Was alright with it although slightly surprised since I was expecting a C after finishing my SAC since I thought I wrote a whole bunch of garbage. We have started comparative but our upcoming SAC is the ''Oral'' Presentation which I think in our case, is going to just be written under test conditions. Aiming for A+ in the Unit 4 SACS. My study score goal for English right now is around 43 - 45 provided I do well on my Unit 4 SACS and the exam.
Methods
I completed my Unit 3 SAC a few days ago and I will say that the SAC was bloody stupid and hard as shit. I know this subject is in my bottom 2 and I knew going in that I wasn't expecting much as I expected around 30 - 50%. However, never did I realize that I might not even get 10% on this SAC. Even the smart kids said that they would be happy with a 50 - 60% on the SAC. Only thing keeping me from being super angry and depressed is that our Methods SACS are known to scale a lot. My study score goal for Methods right now is 25 - 30.
Chemistry
Completed my Unit 4 AOS 3 Poster SAC and I think I did fairly well although everyone I assume did pretty well so I'm probs going to get around the average mark. My upcoming SAC is the Rates of Reactions and Equilibrium SAC which I actually think might be the easiest AOS besides Food Chem. My study score goal for Chemistry right now is 42 - 45.
Biology
Completed my Unit 3 AOS 2 SAC a few days ago and felt decent about it. It was definitely much better than the first SAC. We are currently working on our Unit 4 AOS 3 SAC which I assume is going to be alright. This subject has been kinda of a roller coaster but it's good at the moment. My study score goal for Biology right now is 45+ provided I do well for Unit 4 and the exams.
Psychology
Best subject and Favorite subject still. Completed my Unit 4 AOS 3 SAC and in comparison to the first two Sacs, was much harder since it was a poster Sac under timed conditions however they only gave us the data of the second hand experiment during the SAC and we had to write basically a 4 page discussion. Probs won't do as well as my first two Sacs but since everyone would find it hard, it would scale up more. My study score goal for Psychology right now is 47+.

Congrats on that UCAT score it’s amazing!!! (I’m not sure if you know this but some University’s like UTAS just need 50th percentile).
Also your methods sac sounds a lot like mine I’m also now aiming for 25-30 after that monstrosity! But I beleive you’ll achieve all your goals you’ve been working so hard :)))

Haha thanks! Yeah methods is seriously giving me such a headache right now and what makes it even worse is that all my friends are pretty much set for a 40+ in Methods at least and I'm here hoping for a 25.

Congratulations ThunderDragon! >///< My fellow dragon brethren uwuuu >///<. Just wanted to let you know I am extremely proud of you for obtaining that score owowo! 3/08/2020 Update
Here's my new update for the week. Certainly a lot of new things have changed since the last update. Online school for the next 6 weeks so basically till the end of term 3. Not sure how I feel about this. I definitely understand that it is really important for the health and safety of Victorians but I just realized that we will be spending half of Year 12 in lockdown. I am rather concerned about what will happen with Unit 4 Sacs since Online Sacs just suck and people are certainly going to cheat which just makes things more unfair. My opinion on this is to just get rid of Unit 4 Sacs all together and just use Unit 3 Sacs, the GAT and the exam. This would mean that exams would increase in weighting to about 75 - 80% but at this point, this is probably the most fair option. Although, doubt this will happen and VCAA will probably pull some bullshit out of somewhere.
English:
We have our Unit 4 ''Oral'' Sac which will now be conducted online this week. Not only is it basically a plan of around 500 words, but now it is online making this Sac seem very irrelevant, stupid and useless. I've finished my preparations for it basically and yeah.
Things I need to do for English in the next 2 weeks:
• Finish Reading Never Let Me Go
• Finish Reading Stasiland
• Complete Preparation for Unit 4 SAC 1 Persuasive Argument
Still aiming for around a 43 - 45 and I think this is possible if I start writing a bunch of practice essays during this lockdown period which will prepare me for the exam.
Methods:
My attitude towards this subject has basically remained unchanged. Still hate this subject with a passion. I guess I will need to start catching up on everything I've neglected and this lockdown period could be a good time to do this.
Still aiming for around 25 - 30 and honestly, will be content with this despite being below state average.
Chemistry:
Just completed my Equilibrium and Reaction Rates Sac a few days and had mixed feelings about the Sac. On the one hand, I don't think I did too awful however my calculations for some concentrations were a bit off and I accidentally confused Ammonia with Ammonium which is rather triggering.
Things I need to do for Chemistry in the next 2 weeks:
• Watch Edrolo Unit 4 Area of Study 1 Carbon Compounds Videos
• Complete Heinemann Chapter 10 Textbook Questions
• Complete Heinemann Chapter 11 Textbook Questions
• Complete Notion Notes for Unit 3 Area of Study 1 Options for Energy Production
Aiming for around a 40 - 43 however I will definitely need to pick up my game and work a lot harder for this subject.
Biology:
I feel alright with this subject at the moment. Unit 4 AOS 1 is slightly boring compared to Unit 3 but it is easier so kinda a mixed boat.
Things I need to complete for Biology in the next 2 weeks:
• Watch Edrolo Unit 4 Area of Study 1 Evolution Videos
• Go Through Notes and Questions for Unit 4 Area of Study 1 for tutoring
• Complete Notion Notes for Unit 3 Area of Study 1 Cellular Processes
Aiming for around a 45 - 46 however like Chem, I will definitely need to put more effort to ensure I do well on the exam and pull myself around a bit.
Psychology:
Still my best subject and haven't had any mishaps yet. I am slightly behind tho but it shouldn't be too hard to catch up especially with the increased amount of free time.
Things I need to do for Psychology in the next 2 weeks:
• Watch Edrolo Unit 4 Area of Study Consciousness and Sleep Videos
• Complete Chapters 8 – 10 Learning Activity Questions
• Complete Notion Notes for Unit 3 Area of Study 1 Nervous System and Stress
Still aiming for around a 47 - 50 which is possible as long as I work towards finishing all the content and starting my exam prep early so I can ace the exam.
Subject Study Score Goals:
English: 43 - 45
Methods: 25 - 30
Chemistry: 40 - 43
Biology: 45 - 46
Psychology: 47 - 50
ATAR GOAL: 98.50+ although ideally 99.0+
VTAC Applications have opened so I need to start slowly gathering all the resources for that as well as SEAS applications. Also need to understand the other states equivalents of VTAC. The next 2 months is going to be a long month and a test of our ability to self learn and take imitative. Good luck to everyone for the next 2 hard months.

Wait....did your schools not have online SACs first lockdown?? Your so lucky! I was so mad VCAA made unit 3 worth more rewarding people who cheated their way through those sacs. They really do suck :( my English ranking will never be the same. I was like you planning to use unit for to spring back (because comparitive is worth so much) but if those people cheat and get 100% again my hard work will be for nothing :(.
Anyway good luck!!! To both you and thunder dragon 2 hehe

Hey ThunderDragon! Your vce journal was so addictive to read and damn those are hella ambitious scores! I'm sure you'll definitely hit your target ATAR!
Why do I feel like I know you...
I laughed for a straight five minutes lmaoooooo. I wouldn't be surprised if one of my school friends found me and trolled me by creating an account called 'homeworkisnotapotato'

Ik it's been a while since I last posted but just wanted to vent a bit after the Psych exam. My best subject and the subject i had the best chance of potentially getting a 45+ is ruined after that Psych exam. Felt that the exam was hard + made a few dumb mistakes ultimately led to me walking out the exam feeling really crap. I don't even think I'll get a 40 considering I'm pretty sure I lost at least 10-12 marks already.

Felt that the exam was hard + made a few dumb mistakes ultimately led to me walking out the exam feeling really crap. I don't even think I'll get a 40 considering I'm pretty sure I lost at least 10-12 marks already.
I also felt this way but a 40 study score (Depending) is still possible losing 24 marks as 96/120 (80%) was the A+ cutoff. If everyone found it hard potentially lower.
I belive in you thunder dragon! This exam was actually hard- I believe for psych vcaa is gravitating towards the harder stuff (like last years exam was hard- the very first hard one).
Also imagine how many people get 50s but walk out feeling crap- I think there’s still a glimmer of hope for you.....good luck for bio tommrow!
-
I guess so. I'm not sure why Psych VCAA decided to make it harder when we had two lockdowns this year sigh. But yeah good luck for bio tmr as well.

From my understanding, VCAA writes exams early on in the year so the exams would have been written prior to the lockdowns and revised after the SD changes. Don't fret, if a bright mind such as yours found it difficult, I'm sure the whole state would have agreed. The A+ cutoff will no doubt be lower so don't give up hope :) Plus, it's all over now and all we can do is celebrate 🎉

Yeah I guess so. Thanks! Probs shouldn't let this distract and affect my performance for bio tmr.

It is really distracting & you can do your best to focus on what you can change but also try not to beat yourself up if you find yourself doing a little bit of rumination, just try to get back on the track you want to be on when/if you notice it :)

Hi TD i just wanted to hop in here to tell you not to stress!
I 100% agree psych exams have gotten harder, they want to go beyond memorisation and ask real like application questions, in the same vein the MCQs have also gotten harder.
I personally felt the 2017 exam was easiest of the SD (and yes my exam) just know your thoughts are shared on the exam, so who knows an A+ this year may be lower.
Don't dwell on it as you have other exams to focus on you go this!

Thanks Bri MT and triedandstressed really appreciate it :)

Guess I should provide an update on the experiences of the exams I've had this week so far:
English:
Since this was my first exam, it was the one I was most nervous about and in hindsight, that probably affected my writing ability a bit. The exam itself wasn't bad but I don't think I did amazing either. Overall it was an alright experience and with English being subjective, I guess I can't be certain what I will get.
Study Score Prediction of anywhere between 36 - 40 :-\
Psych:
I've already talked about this exam on here earlier but I guess I'm mostly over it. At times I still am mad thinking about it but at the end of the day, I've got 3 more exams to worry about and can't let thinking about this stuff my later exams. Although it was unfortunate, at least it's another exam out of the way.
Study Score Prediction of anywhere between 36 - 39 :(
Bio:
Wasn't expecting much when walking into the exam but I found it to be easier than I expected. I'm not certain about the 5 marker but in all honesty, this was such a better exam than Psych and that's so ironic. The contrast was huge. I know that an easy exam isn't necessarily a good thing though since making silly mistakes could be more detrimental but in comparison to the Psych exam, I walked out of the exam feeling good instead of feeling crap and it was a good way to finish off my first week of exams.
Study Score Prediction of anywhere between 37 - 41 :)
Got methods and chem left. Methods I am just praying for a 25 and with Chem, I'm gonna study for it in the next 8 ish days and hope I can pull out something good!
-
Hey ThunderDragon, congratulations! You're basically halfway through your exams! You're doing great, keep it going ;D
All the best for methods and chem, you're gonna do amazing!
Looking forward to the next update :)

Finished my last 2 subjects and while I am not feeling amazing after the Chem exam, I am glad that this is over.
Methods:
Exam sucked. Really did suck. I honestly don't care what study score I get cause I know I did terrible in it. So glad I never have to ever see Methods ever again.
Chemistry:
Honestly, besides Multi Choice which was rather difficult, I think the exam itself was quite standard. However, I ran out of time leaving around 12 marks blank (questions I felt were difficult and didn't get time to get back to) and I stuffed up the egg and banana question even though afterwards, realized they were pretty free marks. Honestly, not the best feeling or end to exams but grateful VCE Chem is finally over.
Predictions:
English: 37-39
Methods: 20
Chem: 32 - 34
Bio: 39 - 41
Psych: 38 - 40
Pretty much predicting everything worse than what I was aiming for. Undergraduate medicine is definitely over for me but I guess I can't let this stop me from trying my hardest to get into Postgraduate medicine.

Wow I’m currently vibing with this now. I absolutely despised that methods exam too - what were VCAA thinking??!! Thankfully we don’t ever have to do methods again, which is one thing we can all jointly celebrate!

I love this vibe, and it’s exactly the vibe I’m going for. It’s okay if we don’t make it. This year in itself has thrown so much at as, and all that matters is that we’ve grown and learnt from those experiences. There will always be other pathways into whatever you want to do in the future, and it’s great that you acknowledge that!! Don’t be too hard on yourself - you’ve done so well and persevered so much, and now it’s time to have a break and chill out. It’s okay - whatever the outcome is, we’ve got to take it and move on (although it is very hard).
Congratulations for finishing VCE and enjoy your holidays!!
-
Congrats ThunderDragon!! Please don't be too hard on yourself after such a crazy year... Enjoy your well-earned break :)
-
Congratulations ThunderDragon! Super proud of you, you definitely deserve this break! Don't be so hard on yourself, the challenges you've faced and how you've overcome to become a better and more mature person is what is most important as cheesy as it sounds. You've done amazing and we're all proud. Have a great break! Are you planning to make a uni journey journal of some sort?
-
Congratulations ThunderDragon on finishing all your exams!
Same though: I'm expecting much lower scores than what I had aimed for at the beginning of the year but hey, we finished the year (and it was a mighty crazy one!). That's the same mindset I have about Med. We're going to end up in med anyway so it doesn't really matter what pathway we take.
You're such a resilient person and I know that you're going to get wherever you want to!
Enjoy your break!!

Hello
Thanks for all your support. Forgot to reply so I'll so reply a month late :'( . With ATARs coming out tomorrow, I wish everyone good luck. Personally, not feeling too good about it and will most likely not be happy with it as it won't be high enough for my first preference course but I guess it is what it is. Here's my revised predicted study scores and ATAR:
English: 39
Methods: 23
Chem: 33
Bio: 40
Psychology: 42
Predicted ATAR: 93.75 :'(

Hey TD what other courses are you considering, I'm sure it will all work out for you in the end :)

Thanks tiredandstressed. I'm considering Science at either Melbourne Uni or Monash Uni depending on my methods score which I'm okay with I guess.

Hello
It's been a while since I updated my journal. With course offers having come out a few days ago, I guess I would just like to update everyone on what course offer I got. I got an offer for the Bachelor of Science at Monash and will be studying that this year. In terms of my study scores and ATAR, I haven't revealed what I got mainly because I wasn't too happy with it but at least it got me into my 2nd preference.
I will also be starting a University Journal as well for those who are interested.
-
Hey ThunderDragon!
Congratulations on your offer! Keen to follow your uni journal! :)
