21,000 words! That's insane.
What mark did you end up getting for it? ;D
Mine was around 8,000 words for English in year 10 (I think around 5-6 pages). Ended up getting a 60% because I looked at quantity over quality lol.

Pretty sure it was Year 10 Forensics Story - 6000ish words.
My school makes us write lots of pieces but usually not too long
-
About 8,000 words for a report on what an atom is, and how electrons, protons and neutrons move around and what they mean.
Year 10 chem.
Biggest waste of time, and ended up with a B+ where my teacher didn't even explain to me what I did wrong. He just said it's a good mark you should be happy with it...

I'd have no idea, high school was too long ago haha.
At least for VCE English, when practising for VCE English exams, I'd probably hit ≈2,000 words per essay.
Over the course of the year I probably ended up at ≈1,200 words per essay. I actually had a habit of waffling, and learnt to be more concise as the year grew. Writing long essays requires a lot of skills — just with motor skills alone — but it can be detrimental in later years :)

IPT yr 11 project. I think it was close to 90 pages and 15,000 words. It did have a lot of screenshots though.

Mine was probably similar, only for Literature year 10. Pretty sure it got to 25K.

3000+ Words in an English essay. Not sure if that’s a lot but I almost died writing it!

Recently I had to write a 2000 word essay for my economics unit. First essay since high school and reaching 2k was definitely a struggle. On the other hand I had a project report where I was struggling so hard to stay under 2000 words. Would've loved to be able to go 3k on that.
imo it's all relative and there's no rule for what "a lot" is

Mine is probably my History Extension major work which took almost the entire year researching and writing. My essay was 3000 words (including the synopsis) and I was incredibly proud of it! :D
Honestly, don't think I've written much longer at uni! I've both struggled to get to the word count and had to cut words out before.
-
Pretty sure I often wrote between between 800-2500 words for essays at school.
Also, if anyone's bulging eyes at some values in this thread- a lot of these appear to be the kinds of assessments that takes months and terms to procure and refine, and not just your standard English essays!
Always keep in mind that it's not always about the quantity, it's about the quality. :)
(At uni, the longest piece of work was a 23 page lab report, that had a little less than 4000 words, and took a whole semester to write!)

21,000 words. Never again.
I only ever read the entire document once. All other times I would only read certain sections. Took an hour and 20 minutes to read (with editing).
Never, ever again!

A 6,500-word depth study for biology and 8,500-word mini-PIP for S&C. Never again.
To be fair, I got a great mark on both assignments. Despite that, it was utter hell writing them.
