I want to go REALLY well in further. my aim is 48+ and I would say that maths comes pretty easy to me.
I'm just wondering if it is worth it to go ahead and finish the course over the holidays? I know it wouldn't take me tooooo long..
also, what is the best textbook for further?
and what are the least 'abiguous' modules in terms of questions..

hey there,
YES. definately recommend finishing the course well before the course starts, 'cause then the time your peers are learning the course, you can be doing practise exams, because exams do come around faster than you think.
Modules I recommend:
- Matrices
- Graphs & Relations
EDIT: Graphs & Relations can get ambiguous....

well i did general a this year so i am pretty sure i am going to do trig/geometry, maybe matricies then..
what is the networks module?
If you practice heaps, is the business module any good?
do u recommend just working on checkpoints and stuff bescause if i started practice exams i would run out way too fast!!

The 2 modules I would definitely recommend are:
1. Matrices (definitely do this module)
2. Networks
Also, if you do finish the entire course over the holidays, my recommendation is to do and finish Checkpoints first, then eat practice papers.
Also, you asked about a textbook. I'd say Essentials.

other than that take graphs and relations thats pretty basic and number patterns.
Also you mite want to check up what modules your schools doing for sac purposes.

If you're doing methods next year, do Matrices as one of your modules, transition matrices double up in further and methods
Apart from that, do what phil said.
BUT make sure you check what modules your schools doing and make sure you pay attention for sacs and shit coz they may be easy, but u need to make sure u get close to 100% on each one.

Business is the least ambiguous i found, since going over the past exams and the independent companies practice exams (such as MAV, STAV, etc.) you can pretty much cover every kind of question that they can ask..
The other 2 modules i did were networks and matrices, while 8/9 of these questions are very easy they can throw in one or two that can be quite confusing to work out and can be quite tricky. all the modules are 'aceable' depending on how hard you study

i did networks in class but it was so shit so i did graphs and relations in the exam
i dont think u need to do the course over the holidays or u will be bored shitless all year
further required less than 1 hour a week homework and theres no point doing 10000 exams as its all the same

For Further, I didn't bother. The thing is with Further, if you're consistent throughout the year, you should be okay. I got rank 1 for SACs at my school, but I studied quite a bit before each SAC =)
If you're really motivated, and you're doing the Geometry and Trig module, you could do that in advance as it tends to be a bit tricky.

but isnt the thing with further that its not so much that you have to study like hell more so you have to be good at what you do. like not making stupid mistakes. cause im sure everyone can do the maths part in further. its just the ones that make the stupid mistakes that separates the best from the rest?

^Yes, in a way it does. The concept is very easy and clear, so i think you just practise in minimising the mistakes as much as you can =D
Finishing the course over the holidays will be very easy. Go for it.

Hmm some people find the Geometry and Trig module difficult. It was the hardest of the three modules I chose. I think study in further mainly comprises of practice. It is true, most of the Maths is straightforward, and can be calculated by everyone, but some questions can be tricky and knowing how to solve them comes through practice.

She's coming from a top school so I'm pretty sure she's saying that pretty everyone from her school can do the maths.

Yes. You should have done this. I did it this holidays and it frees up a lot of time. Further just takes time. That's it. For modules, I would definitely recommend:
1 -Number patterns
2 - Graphs
3 - Matrices.
1- because they can only test you on application of formula. However, some independent companies go too far with this on some exams i've done (INSIGHT for example), but on all the VCAA's they have been a joke.
2 - This is personal really, mainly because I did methods last year. Still, since you are doing it as well, this part of the course is just straight lines and some inequalities.
3 - matrices - because further only goes as so far as transition matrices, again, which you do in methods.
Normally, I would also recommend geometry but it is a horrible, horrible module to make mistakes in. Same with business. Decision maths makes you think. This is not what you want to be doing in futher.

martoman is on the money. they are the modules you want to be doing.
definitely steer clear of geo and trig and networks. they can be rather horrible.

geo/trig and networks are the units my school are doing . -_-. I might do other modules for the exams.

our school is doing geo/trig, networks and graphs. ill probably just go with them in the exam. because of the sacs and all that, but does anyone strongly recommend doing other modules in the exam, are they really that different? and also im not doing methods so ive never done matrices.
i dont really know what business maths is but i do accounting and my accounting teacher said it was really easy, so im considering having a look at that.

Replace geo/trig with matrices. Matrices are easy the only difference from what was done in GMF (well, based on the fact MathQuest used same matrices chapter for GMA and GMF) is the transition matrices. Geo/trig tends to be a bit..iffy, really easy to make small mistakes with trig that will stuff up the whole thing. besides, matrices is considered the easiest module.
(all based on year 11 stuff though)
