Hey this is my first post so not sure if it is the right place or not.
So I'm doing Bio 1/2 this year (Year 10) and I got the chance to do 2 3/4 next year if I wanted to. I got this chance last year but I decided against it but now I want to so it sorta frees up Y12. One of the subjects I saw that necessarily doesn't need 1/2 to do is HHD. Any advice I can take. Is it recommended, do I miss out on too much. Thanks in advance.

I recommend doing HHD, and I don't recall too much about it being necessary? Though I did 1/2 first myself.
Wait, no, I tell a lie. I reckon that you really need at least the 1/2 textbook (whether you've done it before or not), there is information that is assumed in 3/4, so if you're good with rote learning it's probably ok (various definitions e.g. the aspects of health need learning) and a bunch of other definitions.
But I don't really remember much about 1/2, that was two years ago, so not sure. But I would recommend getting the textbook and reading it over as well.

Not really. Although it gives you a year to practice linking pretty much everything you learn with the dimensions of health and wellbeing. If you're confident, that's all that matters.

Hello and welcome to AN!
With respect to your question about HHD 3/4 without 1/2, yes it is definitely possible. There may be some overlap however it is definitely possible to pick it up (one of my friends is doing similar to what you are considering doing)
Additionally, I would ALWAYS recommend doing 2 3/4 subjects in year 11 as it greatly lessens the year 12 workload :)

I have a few friends who are doing HHD now and they said they can help me cover a bit of the content in 1/2. Thanks for the advice.

I've covered the dimensions of health both last year and this year (obviously at a much lower level), but thanks for the help and advice.

Yea I got the chance last year to do 2 1/2s but I decided not to (regret it a little bit), but thanks for the help

Hey hey,
I was actually in your exact position in year 10 (half regretting not taking more 1/2s), with bio 3/4 set for year 11 and one free space. I was considering both HHD and PE, but I was convinced by comparing my school's past performances at both subjects, reviews and how much interest I would have at each subject. I was also kind of thrown away by the practical component of PE, so personally, I would recommend HHD, it was sort of a formulaic subject as you write about how you would sort of link each given case study to a health factor or dimension. If you do end up doing HHD, I would advice you to not neglect regular practice of writing about case studies as my personal interest for Bio was considerably higher than for health so I assumed it was an easy subject to do well in without sufficient effort. Regardless, it's still a pretty straight forward subject to do without 1/2 knowledge and well paired with Bio.
:)

Wow that's really cool we were in the same place. I've pretty much decided to do HHD 3/4, thanks for the help :)

Study design has changed somewhat since I did it, but I went straight into HHD 3&4 without HHD 1&2 and felt at no disadvantage whatsoever. 👍

hey im not sure if you will see this one year on but I'm also thinking about doing 3/4 next year without 1/2 and I'm wondering how you're/ or anyone is going or went!!! Will I need 1/2 or is it ok to do 3/4 without the 1/2 content. Any help will be appreciated, thankyou!!!

Hey there! I did HHD with 1/2 but a friend of mine did the subject without the 1/2 and duxed the cohort. So yes, it's definitely possible to pick up HHD 3/4 without the 1/2 content and do well. You will learn everything like the dimensions of health and wellbeing from scratch in the 3/4 version of HHD. Learning the health status indicators and the dimensions of health and wellbeing during the summer holidays will put you at good stead for the first AOS!
Hope this helps you out a bit :)
