Title: O-Week
Post by: nak on January 26, 2008, 04:05:41 am
i know most or possibly all unis have o week but is it compulsory to attend? i want that extra few days of holidays :P
and is it essential to go? any recommendations on whether i should go or not?
to me it seems like a waste of time because basically all you will be doing is have a BIG tour around the uni and its surroundings. Makes me feel kind of childish going on a "school excursion"

But there will be free BBQs!!!! Yummy!!!!

And they will give you a tour around the places where you will be attending your lectures and tutes...It would be useful to go....thats why I wanna go so that I know my way around (the lecture rooms in my engineering course seem difficult to find so I would want to know where they are exactly).

You don't have to attend every single day of O-week ....

Which, if you get lost easily like me, is a good idea :P

And my orientation "week" is only 2 days (21st and 22nd February) :P

the campus tours/official welcomes and that are just the little things. I wanna check out what all the different clubs and societies are doing as well, like FREE BBQ's!  :D

More than just free BBQs, especially now since most unions have to rely more on corporate sponsorship you can get all kinds of free junk, like Red Bull and stuff (and water, :P lol)! Plus, tours really aren't a bad idea, it's within your best interests to be familar with where you'll be going as well as with the library. And you'll meet new people. The whole realm of uni seems pretty exciting/worrying to me, it'll probably be good to get an idea about how it works before you have to worry about study. If it's a new environment it's probably best that you get as much exposure as possible.

Yeah, there's only interesting stuff to do for a day, then the rest of the week is for socialists to recruit you.

She is younger than I was :( Her birthday is after May 10 (August sometime).

Now I cannot just simply comfort my bad results with: "oh I'm younger than everyone though."

OH THE SHAME COBLIN, THE SHAME!

I hope I can do straight HDs at Monash. Apparently it's really hard to do in 3rd year+ , and deceptively easier to do so in first + second.

uni-organised events for o-week usually aren't particularly great. you're more likely to meet new people and make friends in your classes (tutes in particular) than random meetings in o-week, in my opinion.

a lot of people don't really bother turning up most days - sometimes it's better just getting a bit of sleep.

I'm going to O-week but it is straight after uni camp :( lol, and then uni starts :D like yay lol ...
I have my timetable now... stupid ACU, I thought I would only go to uni for 3 days a week, but it looks like I'll have to go everyday :(
