Title: Doing 6 Subjects in Year 12
Post by: bok choi on November 20, 2020, 09:38:02 pm
Hello, guys! Sorry if this is out of place...I have no clue where to ask this so I'll ask here  ;D

I will be doing 6 subjects in Year 12 since I haven't completed one in Year 11. I'm quite scared for the workload although I seem to have coped well this year.

2021 subjects:

Can I have your opinion on the workload for those 6 subjects and if I should drop one? If it's too much I will either be dropping Studio Arts or Psychology :( but I love them so much. I'm aiming to get an ATAR of 85.00! My ideal course's prerequisites are Methods, English and either Chemistry or Biology so I don't want to drop any of those. I really like all my subjects. Please help!

Methods is quite content heavy, and requires fairly constant application during the year. English is not very content heavy at all; if you like reading, knowing your texts will be easy. I haven't done any of the rest of your subjects.

I would say 6 subjects could prove extremely stressing and time consuming (especially since you have not done a unit 3/4); thus, potentially reducing your scores in all subjects as you need to commit ample time to each subject to score well. An ATAR of 85 is more than achievable with only completing 5 subjects. I only did 4 subjects in year 12 and was so thankful that i did not need to 5 subjects, let alone even consider doing 6 in one go. The choice is yours.

If doing 5 subjects and what kind of ATAR you can get is your worry, I know someone who got over 98 (or somewhere around there) with only 5 subjects.

If you love all your subjects, I would advise keeping them, although being ready to drop one at any time (within reason) through the year.
