me and my friend are planning on going next year for y12.
so how did you guys find it and who are the best teachers?

However, the best are probably Irena or Byron!

I like the atmosphere there - if you find the right people, it's friendly and fun. Definitely it made me study Chem on the days when I couldn't be bothered. Even better was the fact I had TSFX on the day when I didn't have Chem at school, so effectively there wasn't a weekday where I didn't do some Chem study :)

lol Byron personally pisses me off, he just says the same thing again and again except in a louder voice, adding in randomly that he doesn't care a rat's backside about such and such.

Well, it depends what you're looking for in a teacher. Are you looking for a teacher that does questions? Or are you looking for a teacher that can explain things well? If you want the latter, then Byron is your saviour.

originally i found byron quite painful, but if you're aiming to extend yourself he's great - he knows his stuff, and sticks to whats important. i'd defs recommend byron over irene if you can stand him.

yeh, comprehensive and succinct. i'd recommend tsfx, i did it for biol last year as well but i guess i havent tried neap or anything... if money's not an issue i'd do it, because it means an extra few hours per week which i woudlnt've done cos i deliberately did it on a friday arvo when i wouldnt be working normally (plus covering something your teacher may've missed)

Think of tuition like this. The amount of benefit really cannot gain x marks on a SAC or exam but it can increase your knowledge. Its always better to listen and do some chemistry than to watch TV at least.

well said - that's what i found. i didn't see a definitive correlation between tuition and success, but it definitely improved my overall knowledge of all courses
that said, i felt that my knowledge of certain courses (biology, chemistry, p.e.) was not necessarily reflected in my marks - especially when above 40, i think that separation between students is largely due to exam technique and not making silly mistakes, so that is what i would focus on (given you know the course back to front of course :P)
