Hi guys

could someone explain to me how PCR and Gel electrophoresis is used when leading up to bacterial transformation?

Hi!
If a particular gene to be transformed is isolated from an organism e.g. a human, then PCR can be used firstly to amplify that sample of DNA and make many copies of the gene. Then, gel electrophoresis is used along with a standard ladder to isolate the gene of interest. Remember, gel electrophoresis requires millions of copies of DNA in order for it to be visible. After doing this, the isolated gene of interest can be inserted into the plasmid and used in bacterial transformation.
