Hey,
I'm now entering yr 11 and I have noticed that there are a lot of regulations revolving around notebooks/bound references in Math exams and sacs.
I used this spirax notebook (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/spirax-no-595-a4-notebook-120-page-es56058) in year 10 (2021) which I will continue to use in year 11 (2022) as my school had a pre-methods subject in the last semester of yr10 and I was able to write down some pretty useful notes.
Is this notebook actually allowed to be used as a bound reference in VCE Maths? If not are there any notebooks you would recommend?

The Spirax (spiral bound notebook) is allowed for the exam! Quite a few people that I know took it into the exam.
Spiral binding is fine, the only thing you can't have is perforated pages.
You can find more information about the reference material here: https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/assessment/vce-assessment/materials/Pages/index.aspx#01 (it mentions the type of binding you can have on this page.)
Hope this helps!

Basically what happens on the exam is that the invigilators will shake your bound reference - if nothing falls out then it's fine and good to go.
Agreed with above on no perforated pages
Spiral bounding absolutely fine - i think some students even just tape their books together with strong tape and if it holds, it's fine

Re: spiral binding. Yes, it is within the rules. However unfortunately sometimes the exam invigilators do not know the rules and may try to confiscate bound references with spiral binding, so it may be best to tape up the spine anyway. (Obviously your school can make sure you keep your bound reference, but do you really want to deal with this at the start of your exam?)
