how'd everybody go!?
-
hard. didn't finish. What did you guys write for 2 differences between service business and manufacturing business? And also how recruting new staff will be changed? Two human resource strategies?
-
i wrote something along the lines of how the inputs required are different.. like a service dusnt require raw materials and has a greater reliance on staff skills .. the transformation process differs and said that the output was intangible unlike a manufacturing org..
dno if it's even close to being correct
the hr qn i just said that they may change the skill level required .. so consider qualifications and then also the testing of staff .. like aptitude tests so see whether or not they possess the standard of skills or sumthin like that
-
i wrote different processes and different facilities layout
for the hr strategy wrote something about job specification and different ways of external recruitment
-
i finished it... it was ok, some questions where from past exams.
-
I went though how the input, process and output of service and manufacturing organisations, describing what takes place n each stage for both using Microsoft for my example (Programs for manufacturing and certification for service).
For the HR I said they would need staff that could work in a team so put them through team roleplays before employing and they would need to cope with a great deal of stress so test for that too.
All in all I thought it was a great exam, hard but I still answered every question confidently with 30 mins spare :-]
-
yer i said for the HR role plays and they want people with experience theyll have to change the job specifications. and that they can test applicants, by putting them in a role play or letting them work their for a couple of days to test how good they are... for the operations one, i wrote something about the process being the service itself, and inputs are different.. and how consumers for service companies purchase the process and for manufacturing based companies about how consumers purchase the output
-
I also wrote that the client is often involved in the input, process and output for a service whilst a product the customer only seeing the output.
-
for the staff recruitment thing i think i said something about raising the bar for applicants to meet the new culture of the bus. after going through a change and also coz its 20 ppl to use diversity management
-
that operations system for the service and manufaturing business was easy :) got the answer from a past exam
but what did you guys/gals put for positive and negative aspects of ESM? i did technology and CSR :/ is that right?
-
oh what were we supposed to talk about with the service/manufacturing according to the paper u did? was it a vcaa exam? and for pos/neg's i spoke of how they havnt outsourced .. possibly to other countries.. chucked in something about quantas .. didnt really focus on wombat airlines.. spoke of a range of other issues in regards to other orgs like redundacies .. costs of implementing policies ensuring employee safety.. and pros/cons of all of em
-
for the ESM one i used holden. i put redundancy and environmental issues
-
the service/manufacturing one was the operations elements and how they differ, i wrote how a manufacturers outputs are tangible and the consumers doesnt need to be present, while a service business is intangible and the consumers has to be present. examples i used were soemthing about a mum not having to be present when flour is made even though she buys it from Coles, and ppl gotta be there when they fly
-
hard. didn't finish. What did you guys write for 2 differences between service business and manufacturing business? And also how recruting new staff will be changed? Two human resource strategies?
diff was outputs were tangible and intangible
also customers need to be present in a service business and customers dont have to be in manufacturing businesses.
-

depends on what business
also did you have name the business?
-
i compared Wombat Airlines with rip curl. :S
-
what was that question concerning the human resource strategies? i forgot :S oh and the one with finding new employees at the hotel
-
i used holden as a manufacturing company =s it was much easier to use and i used jims mowing for a service company
-
for the hotal one i think i said the hotel would turn to EOC to get better quality of employee and then i said job specification i think....
-
The hotel one I said changes in job specification to reflect the new skills and knowledge that would be required when working at a 5 star hotel, e.g.: hospitality qualifications etc.
My second one was job description, Winston Hotels would have to change their job descriptions as the duties and tasks associated with operating 5 star hotels would be different to that of operating a 3 star hotel, e.g.: increased focus on delivering high standards of customer service.
-
woah was it that damn.
i wrote they should conduct a job analysis which is the process of evaluating the current skills and qualifications to assist in accurate recruitment and selection of staff because it allows them to update their current job descriptions and specifications. I then defined what those are, applied it.
a second way is by conducting interviews which allows the employers to determine whether the applicant is suitable for the organisation in terms of social attitude as well as fitting into the organisations corporate culture. defined that as well. applied the wilton hotels scenario.
4 marks?
-
Remember how ever that I think there can be more then one strategy that can be applied to these type of questions. As long it's a HR strategy (anything within the employment cycle is considered a strategy), and you relate it back to the case study and how your going to solve the problem, you should be fine.
-
with regards to the Planning and Controlling Question
defined planning. steps in planning SADIM applied with Johnson Automotive
defined controlling, steps in controling . SDMCTR applied with Johnson automotive. 4 mark q. full marks?
-
full marks if you related those steps to the situation at that company
-
ok that question pissed me off because out of the 10+ practice exams i did i never had a question that chose the management roles for me, and i never use controlling in my examples so there goes maybe a couple marks on crap. you probably got the full marks but i included having to create strategies in my planning and performance appraisals ect.
-
oh for the hr question, job specification, how it needs to change and how employees will need more skill because of it. and the other one was like a role play/ 1 week testing period in which they trial the applicant at the organisation
-
ngrising, i did the exact same as you for hr strategies
-
does anyone have a copy of the exam they could scan?
there are a couple of questions I want to see again.
