Title: Does math methods relate to further?
Post by: narr on November 16, 2009, 06:16:45 pm
In other words does what i do in math methods help with further? Like is it the same concept? or completely different.

Also how is the jump from 1/2 to 3/4 in your opinion in math methods.

Math methods has very very little to do with further, the only thing i would say it has something to do with is linear, matrices and geometry which is mainly covered in year 11 methods not year 12.

Methods did  help me a  bit with Further, like with Transition Matrices =D

i think the jump from 1/2---> 3/4 would be quite challenging, you need 1/2 to have the foundation.

Is 3/4 Methods more related to Spesh?

Do u mean the foundation for 1/2 for methods or further?

I would say so, yes. In Methods and Spesh a lot of the topics require a good understanding of algebra while Further goes through mainly data & statistics. Spesh is also supposed to be an extension for people doing methods. Anybody agree with me?

Yeah, my mind exactly

Methods does not really relate to further much at all. There is a slight overlap with probability and standard deviations, but other than that I can't see many similarities. I'm pretty sure methods is more related to spesh than further.

As far as the jump from 1/2 to 3/4, it's quite difficult. However I found it wasn't so much the concepts that were far more challenging, but the types of questions and problems we had to solve. In Year 11 they were quite straightforward and simple, however in Year 12 they are far more difficult and require a LOT more thinking.

Matrices will definately help now since Methods is now all CAS

the foundation for methods. Are you considering to jump to 3/4?

If you're doing Methods and you're doing well or ok in it, go for your life.  Further will seem like a piece of cake compared to Methods.  :)

Yes it is a good idea. Many of my friends did further 3/4 without 1/2. Actually, i wouldn't recommend  doing 1/2, it is easy tp ace further, just watch out for silly mistakes.!
