Hey guys,
Today's linear algebra exam was on and it was much harder than I expected it to be. The first 3 questions gave me a tiny bit of needed confidence, but then the other questions were just really hard. I personally have very little confidence I did well at all.
It seems to me that the best time to do linear algebra was back in the first semester.

Did the person who said it was too easy actually sit the exam?
Kamil, have you read this thread?
-
yes wtf last semesters way way eassy,
exams marks dont get scaled do they?
-
Usually, exam marks don't get scaled, especially if a lot of people do well in it.
I did Linear Algebra in Summer semester and it was epicly easy :P

Is that because you have less time to do it?

I'm not 100% sure. I think they may or otherwise 50% of the students will fail. I spoke to a few of my friends and they said it was ok or overall it wasn't that hard. Our lecturer spent 1 lecture on the hyperbola or ellipse part so q11 was gone, q10 was a puzzle to understand and so forth.

Oh well if I had to repeat linear algebra over summer atleast the exam will be easier.

Quantum, I was thinking of doing Linear Algebra next year and now you're scaring me. lol
-
Can someone post some notes about Linear Algebra... just wanna have a look to see what its like XD

The subject is genuinely easy and me finding this exam difficult shouldn't deter you from doing this subject. The odds are that the exam will be nicer when you sit it and this exam was more like a rare case.
I really do hope we get a scale up.

I thought it was easy as well when you mentioned matrices (I think). But that's ok. I'll still do it if I get into UoM.

Possibly because of that. And possibly because I only had to focus on one subject during the summer whereas you guys had to focus on 4 in the uni semester.

Not necessarily.

Would love to post some linear algebra notes up except my friend still has my lecture notes.

The subject indeed is as QuantumJG said, very easy (possibly one of the most easiest first year maths subjects offered at UoM.)
If you wanna do some maths as part of your course, I recommend Linear Algebra

No I think it goes more like calc 1 < calc 2 < linear algebra.
With linear algebra matrix theory is very easy to understand, Euclidean vectors are easy to understand and manipulate since up to and including the third dimension you can visualise what you are doing. The hard part is general vector spaces and the exam really focussed on general vectors and not Euclidean vectors which made the exam conceptually more challenging.
They also made the eigen-part harder than what it was in the previous exams. Another part that was put in that barely anyone had enough understanding of was the conics section. Another Easter egg that was kind of like biting into rotten chocolate was doing proofs for some arbitrary set.
If there is a harder exam than this I will laugh.

This made me lol. Reminds me of the joke:
A Mathematician (M) and an Engineer (E) attend a lecture by a
Physicist. The topic concerns Kulza-Klein theories involving physical
processes that occur in spaces with dimensions of 9, 12 and even
higher. The M is sitting, clearly enjoying the lecture, while the E
is frowning and looking generally confused and puzzled. By the end
the E has a terrible headache. At the end, the M comments about the
wonderful lecture. The E says "How do you understand this stuff?"
M: "I just visualize the process."
E: "How can you POSSIBLY visualize something that occurs in
9-dimensional space?"
M: "Easy, first visualize it in N-dimensional space, then let N go to 9."
Moral of the story: get used to working in abstract spaces ;)
