hey, you can check this out https://app.portal.unimelb.edu.au/CSCApplication/faces/htdocs/user/breadth/BreadthSearch.jsp go through the level three subjects that you can do in your course, and then click and see if it has any prereq.

Aww man.
800-301 would've been my ideal subject
Arrgh!
Pity I can't do any more breadth :/

Apparently they've changed some rules about taking language as breadths at Level 3.
I got an e-mail the other day saying that all students wanting to take a language as breadth has to start at Level 1 and can't jump straight to Level 3 (even if it's a beginners language). I applied for Level 3 language sometime ago and they've cancelled it :(

^^
Oh what?! Arrgh.
Then why don't they state the prereqs in the level 3 language subjects?
Thats lame :( :( :(

Here's the email I've got. It applies to BSc but I'm pretty sure it's for other new generation degrees too. I think they've done this so it wouldn't be too easy for students to apply for some easy language and satisfy the Level 3 breadth requirement...
Dear XXXXX,
From 2010 the introductory or beginners level language subjects that are offered at multiple levels (e.g. Level 1, 2, 3) will only be available to new generation Bachelor of Science students as Level 1 breadth subjects.
These changes have been approved by Academic Board and the Handbook will be updated to reflect this shortly.
Other subjects offered at multiple levels that have an introductory level language as the standard prerequisite will only be available to new generation BSc students as Level 2 subjects. From 2010, a BSc student’s first year of tertiary level language study must be taken at Level 1.
Where subjects (particularly language subjects) are listed as available at multiple year levels BSc students may only take the subjects at the lower level.
The University apologises for the late notification. However the issue of introductory level subjects available at multiple year levels was not identified until after the publication of the 2010 Handbook and the commencement of re-enrolment.

yeh im a science student.
im doing chinese as a breadth. but ive only started in 2nd year. i was able to do chinese 1a/b as a level 2 subject. and i was hoping i was able to do chinese 2a as a level 3 subject nxt semester (semester 1 2010). so then i'll would of reach my breadth requirement and could pick something easy in semester 2 of nxt year.
but ever since they sent that email out last friday, i was so upset. cos if i wanna fulfill my breadth requirements for my degree through doing chiense subjects, i have to do both semesters of Chinese nxt year instead of just the 1 semester if u know wat i mean...
hence, the reason why im trying to find a replacement for a lvl3 breadth subject without any pre-reqs.

Holy crap :o Did they re-credit Chinese 1A/B as Level 1?
It's annoying how they change rules whenever they like :(
I wanted to take languages till Level 3, but now there's absolutely no way to do so...
-
muahahaha i took Chinese 4A as level 3 in semester 1 :)
-
Lucky you Ken :)
But with the Bachelor of Engineering, the breadths can be at any level (for my breadths, all of them were at level 1 :P). I didn't want to do level 2 or higher subjects because I figured that it would involve too much work :P

Ok I just got back from the student advisor and was told if I wanted to go straight to Level 2, I could, but have to pass a placement exam. The exam is on Dec 7th, and will have to see what I can do about it =/
