Title: Anxiously waiting for VCE results?
Post by: Davoo! on December 07, 2009, 04:55:43 pm
I'm bloody scared.

I hope the 14th doesn't come because I think I'll be disappointed by what I get. Tried hard but got no where with the effort.

Anyone else feeling anxious?

Really, if I get 35 in methods with my B for SAC's, 35/40 Exam 1 and 55/80 Exam 2, I'll be over the moon and even throw a house party to celebrate haha.

Bahhh can't time just stop?

Even though you may be disappointed you have to accept that was how you went and concentrate on improving your 6 subjects next year. Pwn in them and these scores don't even have to count. Thats what I'm planning to do ;)

You can't change the past, so concentrate on the future.

Mmm, I'm in a different situation to you Matty. I'm pretty sure my 3/4 this year will be in my Top 4.

I don't consider my score as awesome as he must consider his score.
It's all a game of self satisfaction.
The question is are you satisfied??

I sorta forget about it then remember when I see something about VCE. I've only got the one subject to worry about this year, I'll probably forgot that I've got the SMS coming until I actually get it on the 14th! :P

I really despise VCE sometimes. An ENTER score which someone would be over the moon with might not necessarily make someone else happy. It's all dependent on perspective and I hate that.

Take me. I'm going to wake up on Dec 14, and check my results. I know I'm not going to be satisfied. That's why I prefer this ignorance phase, where I am not forced to beat myself up and I can pretend that VCE doesn't exist.

I know it's 'tired old advice' but don't stress too much. I'm sure you'll get enough to get into what you want (commerce right?) and in a year or so noone will even care what your ENTER was.

Out of curiosity do you have a bare minimum that you'll be happy with?

Next year I plan to think back to the way I used to see the ENTER. I seriously used to think that it was impossible for me to achieve 92.00. Seriously. Then with that in mind I will view my results, they will look damn fine  :coolsmiley: hopefully

This is like the old is the cup half full or is it half empty, and Ilovemathsmeth I am confident that your cup will be well over half full. :)

Definitely Engineering!

Although I keep tossing up between the four major streams (primarily leaning to Civil)

Engineering is good for females. I think that almost everyone one of them ( lazy or not, smart or stupid) will pretty much get a job because of the equal opportunity stuff.

I'm not sure though, Melb Uni is tight if you do Actuarial Studies - you can't do a double major which made me saddd :(

I've always wanted to know, what is civil engineering exactly concerned with?

Civil engineering is concerned with designing, building and maintaining infrastructure such as:

1.  Structures (buildings, bridges, railways, tunnels)
2.  Water (dams, pipe networks)
3.  Transport (roads)

I think they also deal with slopes as well.

Check the original post.

Yes I am in year 11 but I'm aiming for 99 (medicine) which I don't think I'll get LOL. I would like 95 at the minimum just for pharmacy or radiography.
Title: Re: Anxiously waiting for VCE results?
Post by: Ilovemathsmeth on December 08, 2009, 05:07:22 pm
I see, it might be possible. It appears as though you've scored a mid A on exam 1 and a mid A on exam 2, which seems to suggest 33-37 I think. Hopefully you'll look at 35+.
Title: Re: Anxiously waiting for VCE results?
Post by: crappy on December 08, 2009, 05:10:51 pm
55 out of 80 seems to be a low A
35 out of 40 would be a high A, according to last year.

so 35 is definitely possible

Yeah misinterpreted because I kinda figured that it would be year 12's "hoping" for certain enters around this time.
I've heard of people getting 95 and getting into med. I forget the exact percentage but I think it's like 40% based on umat, 30% on interview and 30% on enter (probably got one of them wrong) but if you get a decent enter and do well, you could probably still have a chance.

I'm not really satisfied with my Methods. Actually I'm somewhat disappointed at how I went in the exam. It's just that maths is my strongest subject.

To be honest, I won't be disappointed in what score I get, because I'm happy with myself that I put in the amount of effort that I could have, all throughout the year, even though I've had a lot of stuff happen this year.

Yes, I'll be upset if I don't get into the course I want, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it - there is no way I could have done any better.

That's how I sleep every night.. telling myself that :)

My sister chucked out all her reports because they were totally useless to her. She was even going to chuck out her VCE transcript, but I took them while she wasn't looking so I could refer to what marks got what study scores later.

When I still went to Chinese School, the teacher would copy + paste the comments for everyone's report and she forgot to change the name for someone.

THAT HAPPENED TO ME! I'm not in VCE so I'm kinda hijacking this thread but when I did year 11 Chinese outside school, I had grade reports that would often refer to me as a 'he', 'it' and sometimes 'William'. Note that I'm actually a girl and she must've copied his comments on everyone else's.

When we  NEVER, EVER did any homework, it was sport every week. I asked the P.E teacher about it, and she never directly gave me an answer, grrr.

For maths it said "does not utilize calculator", err....I have used it all year, without a calculator im stuffed =.=*

i got a "alex's exam score, while pleasing, shows she still needs to improve on studying and revising" when i got 95% :S

My dad said that when he was in high school, an English teacher gave canned comments like "good use of safe equipment" to students he didn't like

Did you study at all for methods this year? Seems like we'll be getting the same score of 35. Our grades are really similar. Everyone said 35 in terms of raw for us right?

35 scaled = comfort group + chocolate and icecream.
35 raw = house party.

why would u throw out your report......i always want to have them as a record, even in 50 years time, they are really useful, now u don't have much to show what u achieved prior to year 12

hahha, oh well?

lol. I still have my year 7 report and my grade 6 year book. Damn it's such an inaccurate representation of me (we had to write our own section about us). It would have been cool if in year 12 we did the same thing.

You can Photoshop an offer as well.  Make it for Harvard or Yale or something really good.  Then just move out and say your going overseas for uni.  Your rents will never find out! xD

With B for SAC's, 35/40 Exam 1 and 55/80 Exam 2, I am really praying I get 35 raw. It would be a miracle to get that.

Anything lower my first will also get intimate with the wall. And then extremely intimate with year 12 books.

We seem quite similar lol. As soon as I get my result back on Monday, i'm gonna hit the books for next year too.  Probably gonna do the summer program at TSFX as well.

Yeah I didn't do well this year because of personal issues that unexpectedly came beginning of sem 2. Beginning of the year I was aiming for 40 raw. That fell through pretty badly.

Otherwise, what you have in your sig is what I'm aiming for too haha. Are you my long lost twin or something? LOL.

And I'm not doing any of the summer programs. I've got no moolah. But I do those 10 week lecture thingymobobs @ NEAP.

Sorry to hear about that.  Im sure that next year will be better :)
And I know what you mean, I always seem to be asking myself, where are all the normal people like me LOL.
I left school at the end of year 10 to do VCE at TAFE.  I hate the school environment.  Are you doing your VCE in high school?

Firstly a lot of the people just annoy me.  Also hate the uniform thing.
Then there is the co-curriculum rubbish,  they expected me to do 30 hours out of school in year 12, and compulsory Religious Education as well.
As well as that they couldn't really accommodate the subjects I wanted despite being one of there top students.
At TAFE, no one tells you what to do, the onus is all on you.  The focus is on nothing but the studies.
The people are generally more friendly, however not having someone there to tap you on the shoulder does require a lot of discipline.
The best part will be that next year I will undertake all the studies listed in my sig, and get 2 days off every week. :D

Nah, i'm doing both English and EL.  Don't really know which one i'll be better at and it kinda gives me the opportunity to screw one up without ruining my ENTER.   Co-ordinator wanted me to choose only one, felt like telling her to shove it!

I should of tried harder in my SACs.  (3/4 Software Dev)

To be honest i did ok but i didnt really care, i was just like meh.

Now i realise deeply everything counts even in little bits...SACs...Exams... damn by exam time it was already half over.

Im not too fussed though... i was planning for it to be in my top 4 though...hmm..anyway i reckon im still gonna get 35 ish.. that aint too bad.

hey
u tried the best you could at the time and with the circumstances
everyone can say in hindsight oh if only at that exact time i knew this fact, then i would of got a higher mark....it never works like that
so you should be satisfied with the score you get
unless you purposefully tried less than you could at the time with the circumstances, then that would be just...dumb and it would be your own fault

so u see its not all that bad

Hey TL,

Was just reading one of your posts in the Tutoring forum, about the TSFX summer programs.  As they aren't all they're cracked up to be, I've decided to study at home with the TB.  Can you give me a few pointers?  For example do you recommend just going through and reading the text, learning important concepts and then answering the exercises? Also with what areas of study should I begin, and how far into the course should I go? I am planning on doing this for Methods, Chem and Physics.  Obviously I have to check what modules I am doing for science.  :)

Your help would be much appreciated.

I'm going to do the whole textbook, but I'm just going to make sure I understand all the concepts and examples involved, and how all the formulas are derived. I'm going to leave completing all the questions for after I've gained a basic understanding of the entire course. I'm doing things this way so that the amount of WTF? moments I have during schooltime is minimized.

davo i did graduate from skevs this year. if i didnt do methods in year 11 i wouldnt have done as well this year because it requires serious application and thinking outside the square much more than subjects like legal. i was okay with a 38 raw but i did have rossy as a teacher lol. relax mate in the class of 2008, dan moore, sean blackall and matt barrie all got 37 for meth and ended up getting 99+ - so you still have next year to make amends. youll find that the experience you gained this year will put you in good stead for your other subjects. even with chem i was getting b's wth dowling in yera 11 and got A+ in midyear just because of my experience with the vce. so in terms of sac/exam preparation and the mental side of things you will have an upper hand on everyone else who didnt do a 3/4.

Really? I think 4-5 of my class got 40+. Maybe he wasn't a great teacher; I can't really remember. I do remember messing around a lot in that class though. O'Dea for Spec and UMEP was great though, good teacher and still let us get away with not doing much work. And 35 raw in methods isn't that hard at all, plenty of the class got that.
