Further Electronics/Sound
-
structures and materials - very easy and good topic
photonics - boring as shit and some annoying questions. ( mostly all theory questions)

Are there such thing as "easier" detailed studies?

Did anyone do Einstein's special relativity?? It looks really interesting.

haha, yeah thats really interesting, but not many people do it.

Yeah I did. It was really easy. I found the Detailed Studies were pretty easy compared to the 'core' content though.

Structures and Materials
Sound
Structures & Materials was good but sound was a piece of... Then again, I phayled physics so don't take my opinion for law. :)

Definitely do:
"Structures and Materials" for Unit 3
"Sound" for Unit 4
-
sound was a piece of...
What made it 'a piece of...' ? Was it boring?
-
if we dont liek the one the school does, can we learn another one in our own time and do that section on the exam?
-
Yes, but of course you have to do your SAC's on the ones the school had chosen.

That was a factor in it as well. It was boring and I don't mean this in any offence but if you're a non-music sort of person, you're not going to get on well with harmonics.

Sound and Materials. I liked sound because I got to play violin in class xD
-
My school does structures and sound but I'll probably read over Einstein's Special Relativity during Summer break for fun. Interesting stuff.
-
Hmm heaps of people tend to do sound and structures. Must be some good stuff..

During orientation, they gave us a bunch of reasons grounded in statistics as to why structures/sound were the best choices, didn't really care enough to remember them though. Something about relevance to the core topics and state-wide performances.

My teacher just said he wants to help us score the best which just means doing the easiest detailed studies. :)

But hmm..why do they have a variety of detailed studies if certain ones are more beneficial?

shoulds i start studying physics?

It was more reasons like, "materials and structures is heavily related to motion and statistics show that students doing m&s do better on exams (%)..." etc etc.

Well, I would say for all subjects you should at least read through the stuff so you don't get any nasty surprises later in the year (at which point there may be more accumulated stress). You could get ahead of the exercises a bit but there's no real need to go overboard.

How important are detailed studies vs. core?

How important are detailed studies vs. core?
Well, looking at this year's terrible graded distributions, if you want an excellent mark, both are equally as important. :)
