Hey all
Just wnated to complile a list of weird exam/ENTER outcomes.
For example;
I did a subject which was MEANT to be my top 4! Like I was very confident in it, got great marks in the year, ranked like 3rd in my class, and it ended up being OUT OF my top 4, so i only gained 10%, and a subject I did NO revision on, swear to god, absolutely no revision,, woke up 1 hour before the exam (slept and played games day before), it went in my top 4.....LOL, and I actually did really good in it ><, got top range 30's
I was flabbergasted at how my SS for the subject i was GOOD AT, only gave me 10%.... lol.
And for the subject I did no revision in, I skipped 2 questions, and for the essays I rote 4 pages of RUBBISH, like I made it ALL up on the spot, hardly used facts/figures etc, just stuff I know from the news
My point is, I barely did any study during the exam period......but got great results
Furthermore, I should add, i did study VERY hard for SACS....maybe thats why I did better?? I don't know, but yeah like you don't have to study too much during exams, maybe just study intensively/cram in 1 or 2 days before.
So people, don't lose hope if you did bad on SACS, u can make up for it during ur examination period.

Same thing happened to me. Spent all year on spesh, no time whatsoever on BM, BM ended up being a 50 somehow, whilst spesh was in my bottom 2. Hmph.

This has happened to me every year so far.
Last year my highest SS was for a subject that I only studied for on the day of the exam.
This year I managed to somehow score a 50 in the subject I quite literally did next to no study for throughout the year and did only 3 trial exams as revision.
Furthermore, the only subject which I have felt completely confident in my exam and school performance ended up being my 7th subject.
Just shows VCE produces some completely random results. I swear the feeling of a 39 pre-results can feel the exact same as a 50.

Ouch! LOL, I guess it works to be a mixed blessing =S
And it's weird, because Spesh goes UP, and BM goes down....yet you overcame this, and had BM in your top 4 ><
@lynt, Yeah I agree with you! but I am not complaining....I don't know what I "think" about all this, because my marks I am happy with ><, I wonder why this happens though, maybe because you spend SO much time on sometihng, you start not "learning" anymore, that is, it doesn't "stick" in your head...whereas a subject you're bad at, is easier to "learn" new points etc? I have no idea.

Not when you get 50 :P

haha yeah I know, LOL. I meant like since it scales down, it usually works against you, so you need even MORE effort.
-
well both subjects I tried hard in, I got crap SS.
I thought I know the lot in psych, I studied a lot and made sure I knew the lot, ended up with less than 40 for it. Maybe it is due to having a great mid-year and overconfidance for the end of year exam
-
I studied so hard for Physics but somehow it got knocked out of my top 4 =S Somehow replaced by Chemistry which I hate.

Same thing with me. I was positive that I was going to get 50 for Further, spent all year perfecting my knowledge and then exam time comes along, Further is in my bottom two and Accounting somehow gets a 49 and makes it into my top 4. I mean, WTF?
-
For Physics i got 89/90 in the first exam, a Perfect score in sacs and an A+ in the final exam(dont know what i got though) and i ended up with a 40.
Physics was the one subject i thought i might off gotten 50 in.
-
OMG that's so tight! :(

err I doubt that =S
LOL, not syaing you are not telling the truth, but pretend you got a low A+, I am sure that would still be like 43-45?

I think someone in my school got 90/90 on exam 1 and an A+ on exam 2 and a 42 (Not sure on their SAC marks but assuming A+)
I think they must have been very tight when marking physics this year. Bad luck to the people who have to suffer because VCAA produced a rubbish first exam.

haha that is precisely what depressed and confounds me. i think even if i got the lowest possible A+ i should still deserve atleast 43

Revs was a bit suprising to me. Perfect scores all year, practise exams all A+, and I was pretty happy with my work in the exam. Reassured by the fact that my teacher said that everything I wrote was exactly what I should have written. GAs A+, A+, A+ and study score...42. Figure I must have epically stuffed the exam, without realising it. =(
Basically same story with English. Dropped one mark for the year. GAs A+ A+ A+, and SS 42.

I know two people who read at least 15+ textbooks for revs, and made massive notes, yet got 42 or thereabouts - Revs is weird. Also the person who was first in SACs for Methods got 42, and I'm pretty sure he worked way harder than me, as well as acquiring more "outside sources." But most of of all I am surprised at my school's VCE results.

Music: had family crisis halfway through the year so barely studied... came out of final exam crying because I ran out of time and could only write a couple of dot points for the last question worth 12 marks. Study score 50. What the fuck?
Methods: literally did about 40 practice exams (full exams, 40 x exam 1 + exam 2)... finished both exams about 20 minutes early because I found them so easy... study score 44 >_>

Lol I did about 30 practice exams all in timed conditions and in one sitting, finished Exam 1 in 35 minutes, but found Exam 2 somewhat hard.
-
I did 20 and found that sufficient, then screwed the exams up big time.. I finished both early
Exam 1: 35-40 mins
Exam 2: 90-95 mins
:buck2:
-
lol, I flunked out on methods (2nd best sac marks in the school) and was worried English wouldn't be above 25. got a 32 raw for english and a 35 raw for methods. :S haha
-
@Ninwa, thats so weird!
Um, although this occured for a SAC, For my final question in politics It was worth like 20%? of the whole SAC, and i ran out of time so I put like 3 dot points each one having only one sentence/10-15 words.....got full marks....and u know how in politics you have to write LONG answers with evidence etc.....i did none of that LOL
-
Apparently my school has completely screwed up Chemistry results for a number of students. The wrong SAC marks were entered for some students, causing them to get much lower SS then they should have gotten. Basically they are going to have to change a number of people's SS and hence their ENTER so I wonder how this affects the rest of the state.
Oh the joys of being in a state school.
-
I got consistent C's through my Visual Comms Sac's and then somehow pulled an A in the exam lol

I am sure it would happen to private schools nonetheless =P
-
I assume they are more rigorous in maintaining the conditions present in SAC's. I also think they wouldn't allow a student complete a SAC in the common room. There definitely would be cases of such leniency in private schools, though I think their frequency would be significantly lower than in public schools.
-
After getting a B+ in my trial exam for English (4.5/10 for txt response) , my teacher predicted I would just scrape an A. Ended up with an A+ though lol :)

yeah I reckon you're right.

I agree as well. While such cases are not exclusive to public schools, private schools tend to place a lot of value in prestige and reputation and would probably be much stricter when handling SACs.
Although my statement was actually in relation to the ENTER stuff up at my school. This is the first I've ever heard of such a mess up and I'll be interested to see what happens as I doubt this can be as simple as changing the ENTERs of all the students affected without tampering with state rankings.
-
They won't change anyone elses ENTER. What else could they do besides just tweak your cohort Chemistry scores and hence their ENTER?

But doesn't that cause slight problems with the overall state rankings? I guess maybe because it's not too big a cohort it wouldn't have too much of an effect?
-
Lol as if they would go through the effort to recalculate 50,000 students' scores

In regards to this, I asked my teacher what happens if there was an error when entering the data onto the computer
They said they print out all the entered data and rigorously check them, as well as handing it to otehr teachers (i think the latter i mis understood), but yeah.

How would they go about informing the rest of the state that their scores have been altered, as a result of one school, I envisage some affected individuals getting angry at your school. What about scholarships? Some who have already accepted a scholarship may be, as a result of this, placed below another person in line for the scholarship. Should they be stripped of it?
The point is, it would be a nightmare to change everyones scores. I assume they would keep everything as is, alter the people's SAC scores at your school and give them their 'proper' SS and recalculate their ENTER.

This is what I'm thinking as well. I'm also predicting my school may cop a hefty penalty or fine. Really this was extremely clumsy and I'm surprised they let it happen.
-
Hadn't thought about penalising the culprit school, but makes sense. Probably a fine.

face it nina, your performance was just too damn good and that's all that really matters in Music (well yeah written matters quite a bit but most people don't finish it on time so it's a rubbish exam anyway)
-

regrettably true yet not...in group performance was ranked top in the grade (official A+), A+ on written yet got a B on the performance which leads to a *bad* 36. sadly written doesn't count for that much in the end.
-
I don't know what's going on, but I certainly hope my Chem score is adjusted. What a disappointment. All that effort and those hours of preparation couldn't even get me 45 raw. What else should I have expected from stupid Chem.

I liked the written exam for music :( Well the theory/aural bit, anyway. w00t perfect pitch. And yeah, EVERYONE doesn't finish that exam on time. I don't know why they make it so long for such a short amount of time...

drilled the bm exam, B+, A+ , A+ got 39. [unit 3 sacs, unit 4 sacs, exam]. friend in my school got A+, A+ , A and got 40 . friend from another school got A A A and got 39. seriously. wf >_> .
-
and believe me, if i got that 40, my spot for my desired dble degree would have been so awesome. fucking vcaa

Can I just STRESS, they probably were LOW A+'s etc...
For example,
the dude who got A,A,A he probably got like 89% (1 more and would be A+)
Whereas the dude who got A+,A+,A (those A+'s, were probably one mark off an A)
.....see what I mean. You cant just look at the LETTER, its the exact numerical figures which matter the most, but yeah I see what you mean and I would be annoyed too, but yeah.
