Title: O week (well, day) dilemma
Post by: ninwa on February 08, 2008, 08:37:16 pm
I have a dilemma on whether or not to attend some O week activities.

OK on Feb 20 theres ...
- a Dean's Address (welcome, introducing us to lecturers and student reps from the Law Students' Society (LSS) etc)
- a "surviving first year law" lecture ("get the inside info on all aspects of studying at Monash Law and undertaking a law degree")
- LSS welcome BBQ

But I also have a pretty important music audition on that day at around 12ish which I most likely can't change because of the number of people auditioning ... so my question is will I be missing much if I miss out on that day? The audition is really important to me and it will take priority unless there's some crucial info that I'll miss if I don't go the orientation thing ...

What should I do?? :-\

OMG don't ever go to the "dean's address" its the most boring thing ever

and don't worry about the lecture you wont need it.

the bbq is good for meeting new people

Oh just this national music competition which I probably won't get into but is good performance experience :)

... and if I get REALLY lucky (ie. all the good people get sick or something) and I actually get through the competition, I get to perform with the Melb Symphony AND I get like $15k to boot :P

thanks guys :)

isn't there a myth that it's bad luck to say good luck before a performance of hamlet? or did I just make that up ...

Yeah, there is ;P...not sure about the source though....

Hence you see 'break a leg' (in the US, but spreading worldwide just because it's the bloody US cultural expansion) and 'chookas' (seemingly an Aussie word) used in place ;)
