The fact that I need a high enter score to get into the course I want. Did 4 hours yesterday.
Found a course that requires a relatively low ENTER thats really taking my fancy. I stopped after 25 mins today. :\ Im so tired though.

Im not smart enough. Well I probably am but the way its all done doesnt suit me. I get my results using logic, general knowledge, common sense and broad specificity. I made that last term up. I dont like working like a dog, probably because im not a dog. Im not made for this world, I EXPECT to become rich without working.

Aim higher mate, I didn't work like a dog, I barely studied at all (I did maybe 1 hour a week, sometimes less) only put in the effort at exam time and I still managed to get 90+. If you're willing to put the work in you'll pull a 95-99 easily

Im not smart enough. (yadda yadda dog)
That. I wouldn't feel confident going through year 12 without studying over the holidays. Besides, with me usually when I teach myself something, I get a little buzz and gain the motivation to keep working. Of course trying to teach myself something at the start allowing me to ride the "yay me" train can be a bit of a challenge. :P

All my subjects get marked down though. I have to get 42-3 RAWs to get 40's in most of them. Im really seeing limitations though, as if no matter how hard I try I wont get 40's. I also feel like I wont be able to maintain A+'s in everything I do for every subject. And that if I get a B or something crap ill go off the rails.

Plus im content doing a course that only needs a 75 anyway.

What are all your IQs like? (Percentile not a number and keep it to yourself if you did an online test) You must have to be pretty intelligent to get in the top 9% (FOR VCE) without working.

ive never actually done an IQ test, nor do i intend to do one any time soon
in VCE scaling can make up for a lack of intellegence anyway, ENTER is a terrible way to measure intellegence btw

But at the end of the year will you be happy getting a 75? I don't even need an ENTER (not attending university) but I just always had that thought that at the end of VCE I won't be happy getting <90, just something in me.

You don't need to work hard to get 40's, you just need to work smart. I don't have any experience in your subjects so I can't say I cruised through them heh

Depends really. Its all relative to the work I put in. If I made a decision to cruise it and winged every test but still got 75 i'd be happy. However if this was the case it'd hardly be the attitude to take into uni anyway would it?
I think I'd max out mid 90's. My top pref requires a 91.70, for this years batch anyway, and with if I put in 100% and came out with anything less than that id be very disappointed. Qualifying for my first pref, whatever it may be, is what will make me happy.

frankly, i did VCE for my parents, they never demanded me to achieve anything but theres an un-said rule in asian parent circles that those who have kids achieving <90 will loose face.

just don't want them to look too bad, to be honest that's purely why i studied during yr 12... now they are quite happy with my results and i am happy for them :):):)

however, i also enjoy the satisfaction of being able to select more courses which opens up my options list, and i don't regret nerding for the past 10 months, lol

IQ tests are good for a bit of fun. Everyone likes seeing where they fit in.
ENTER measures capability more than anything else. The thing that I dont like about VCE is the broad nature of it. If you know what you want to do then surely you could spend the 6 years of high school honing your skills in one area. Too much emphasis on being an all-rounder. If education was more specialised our professionals would be more.. professional.

I have to do it to beat everyone in my family. Im the youngest of all and would like to stick it up them all. Theyre all cockheads and I would like to be more successful than each and everyone of them. I cant wait to be so successful and have a nice family and just appreciate the little things. Living comfortably. I was thinking about it today. I wish when I went to the cupboard all the food I craved was there. Something as simple as that. I want to be able to live without a budget.
My motivation is coming back, lol im all over the place tonight. This year will be one of the most crucial years of my life. I lose motivation when I dont stop to think whats motivating me. I think thats the most important thing for all of us to remember and to keep practicing.
I have to stop being so pessimistic.

For me, its simple. Not everyone has the capability of getting a high ENTER score but I am going to try day and night to get as high as I possibly can because this is probably the most important year of your life and theres no point not trying.

At the end of the year even if I dont get as high as I want to 96+ I will be at least a little bit satisfied that I did the best I could.

actually, i am also motivated by my pacer, which i love very much (<3 Pentel side click ones). I can't use the ones with rubber grips coz i find them very distracting(dunno why), the ones with just normal transparent grip is much better for my concentration (even though it hurts sometimes). Whenever i get bored and stuff and can't be bothered solving questions anymore, i ll just tell myself how fun it would be to use up the half-used lead left in the pacer - and i usually end up forgetting about it and start to concentrate in the work

we used to compete in primary school about our lead-using speeds =P

i think i used up about 15 leads this year ^_^ which is wayyy more than my usage from yr1~11

yaya gel pens <3<3 but they are non-erasable, which means i will have to render my rubbers usless. so i usually prefer writing in pacers ^_^;

And to the question: my motivation lies not in the fact that I need a high ENTER to get into the uni course I want (although that does, in some respects, make a contribution) but merely because of the mentality to do my best in everything I do. Lifting a quote from a book I read recently, "If you want to do something, do it well, otherwise, don't bother doing it."

There's nothing wrong with it in the context of this thread.  When taken out of context however, it just conveys a different meaning to some people.

my motivation was to beat my brother (who got 97.5) and who used to constantly taunt me with, 'You'll never be able to beat my score! HAH!' or 'You're too stupid lah'
Although he was in jest I took him seriously and studied very hard to beat him.

Added to this was the fact that I wanted to get into arts law in monash...before I saw the clearly-in ENTER for monash I never thought I could get high 90's.

I guess these are the only reasons I studied hard in year 12.

Imo this doesn't mean don't attempt something you think you might not do well in (as in get good results). It's just that when you try something then give it a good try, work hard for it and try to achieve.

I'm a stationary addict aswell. It's not fair, at the UoM book store I spend probably an hour looking at stationary.

Lifting a quote from a book I read recently, "If you want to do something, do it well, otherwise, don't bother doing it."[/b]

But what if you are obliged to do a subject (I.e. English)? Like I mean I would be cool with not having to do English back when I did VCE. The quote should be modified to say 'if you need to do a subject to do something you are passionate about, then bother about it.'
