Want to see what our classes like for free? On the 23rd and 24th of January, at no cost to you, we are going to be putting on revision classes of all the units 1+2 material you'll need to know for unit 3 of Mathematical Methods, Chemistry, Physics and Specialist Mathematics. You will be provided with free notes, and an XLL quiz (which will be covered in class), which follows the exact same structure of our normal classes.
All the details are at: http://www.xllacademy.com/?page_id=90
And the facebook event page is here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=265025792544
These classes are not part of our regular curriculum, so to those of you who have already signed up for XLL Classes, you're encouraged to come to these revision lessons, but it's not the start of our classes.
We hope to see as many of you there, and tell your friends! But arrive early or you may miss out.
-
sweet :)
-
This is awesome!
-
Yeah, I wish I could be in Melb for this... :(
-
great idea guys :)
edit: dont think i can make it, gah
-
I might just attend to get a chance to see how good you guys are :P

That's exactly what I was thinking. But after some second thoughts, it would be pretty harsh for a person who as finished year 12 and taking up a spot instead of a needy year 12.
-
^^^
haha, needy year 12 lol.
-
Hahah yeah true (lol needy). I'll just sit in the corner and take up as little space as possible then :P
-
This is for VCE students doing these subjects only. We have limited space, so please be mindful of those who would actually benefit from it! Thanks :)

Why not do a "Mission Impossible" and hide in the air vents? Or better still, pull of a spiderman and hang from the ceiling.
EDIT: In response to enwiabe, no don't do it.
-
Haha no enwiabe, don't worry, I'm kidding on coming :P However, current year 12's would be silly to miss it.
-
Hey guys, I don't have Facebook, but I will most probably be coming to all three of these revision classes which are applicable to me. :) Great idea guys :P
-
there are gonna be tons of ppl at this is thing
-
Would there be similar revision classes next year or the year after?
-
there are gonna be tons of ppl at this is thing
How many people will fit in your room? I foresee an overflow of people.
-
^^ looking like it :P

If that happens, I guess it will just be "first in, first dressed" since it's a free lecture and not a paid one.

Omg.
Someone else who doesn't have fb!
Awesome.
I'm looking forward to reading the inevitable feedback that will flow onto VN! ^_^
Perhaps you'd best be content with this too dejan, or enwiabe'll probably staple you to the roof or something *shrugs*
-
Awesome idea! Loooks good as- I just told a friend mine about it since i can't go haha.
-
Everyone is welcomed! So invite as many friends as you can!
I'm looking forward to this :)

Exactly what I was thinking :P

We can seat roughly 20 people (each with desk space) at once, if you'd really like to stand in, feel free to stay :P

15 minutes maybe? or earlier if you want to have a chat to us, socialize with other students there, ask questions about us, etc.
:)

That doesn't add up :s If we all invite as many as we can, that will be ~50 people at the very least...

xD, that's what I was thinking.

So what are we to do, invite everyone or not?
-
Yes invite your friends!
-
What happens if >20 people come? As is inevitably the case.
-
What happens if >20 people come? As is inevitably the case.
the others have to stand in the hallway and only listen XD
-
What happens if >20 people come? As is inevitably the case.
We has to sit on the floor like preps >:(
jks jks
-
What happens if >20 people come? As is inevitably the case.
Like Mao said... There is enough room for >20 but not everyone would get a desk space if that is the case.
-
Well, I have another question. How many people can the whole room hold? Including standing space. What is your plan if this figure is surpassed?...
-
Do everyone that show up get provided with the notes and the quiz?
-
Do everyone that show up get provided with the notes and the quiz?
Yes.
-
Currently, it does not look like we will reach capacity. If we do, we have enough chairs to seat 30. We have enough standing room to seat 40ish. I highly doubt we'll be getting 50. I think a much more accurate estimate is 20 per subject, based on RSVPs to the facebook event, XLL e-mail address and this thread.
Don't stress :) Also, no matter what, you'll be getting the notes + quiz.

That is reassuring. :P
Anyway, if your friends are anything like mine, there is little hope of them coming.

lol, on the other hand, my friends will jump on anything that has the word 'FREE' on it :P
-
My friends think this great, it's just they are lazy when it comes to school related stuff, 'outings' if you will. They consider attending VCE 'outings' too nerdy, and, illuminates a clear 'obsession' with school. Perhaps they are onto something, it may well be a sign of preoccupation with score.
-
illl b theree!. need to improve on my 31 of biology from yr 11.
its study time ~~~!
-
lol. i might pop by and take a look, i'll be in a suit though >.> due to work. . .
-
Crap, why city? :(
-
Just reminding you guys, tomorrow is the free chem/methods revision lectures!!

Was just wondering, is there any way we can get the notes by alternative means? I don't think I'll be able to come because I have a piano lesson tomorrow, and a camp starting the day after. Thanks.
-

How'd the first session go? Couldn't make it today :(

Yeah wondering the same thing. City is bit far for me.
-
The city's only about 10 mins from where I live. Hmmmm...to come or not to come? :-\

Yeah same here man.
So how was it? (Everyone that went)
-
I liked it.
It was really tense, though there was no reason for this other than a room full of timid students; everyone was so shy and reluctant to speak.
Mao was pr0, as expected. I didn't go to Methods, for obvious reasons, so I can't comment on that.
Overall I think it was a very worthwhile exercise, and a major credit to all involved.
I am looking forward to tomorrows classes.
What happens if >20 people come? As is inevitably the case.
It appears I was wrong. Though it only worked for the better of those who did go. :coolsmiley:
EDIT: An interesting observation: I saw only three non-asians. Two of them being enwiabe and kamil, the other being me.
-
Didn't go, but heard from kyzoo that the lectures were done quite well. Congrats guys! =)
-

LOL I was answering Q's at first then I got self-conscious cause no-one else talked =(. When Mao asked questions to the class, the response was often dead silence.
Today I learned from Mao 1) To avoid gummy bears in the future 2) To be antisocial in the exam room.
-
lulz, I think nobody wanted to get the answers wrong :P
Lectures were well done; but surprised at the lack of people that came. I thought it was gonna be packed!
btw, kyzoo likes to hit on chicks in exams :P
-

"No matter how hot she is, don't talk to her." lol

lol....is true....oh well..guess have to save it after the exam ::)
-
Haha we're glad you liked them! Yeah, tomorrow guys PLEASE SPEAK UP!!
I want all of your questions! You learn by asking questions :) We can field anything. Don't be afraid of getting some answers wrong. You learn more by making mistakes than getting something you already knew right. We're not judging you! We know you're in a learning process, we're trying to help you make the mistake now so you learn from it, and don't make it in the future/on the exam!
Hope to see as many of you there tomorrow as possible!
-
I was intending to bring a few friends along, but unfortunately my week crashed a steaming train wreck and it never came to fruition. Instead, I spent a lonely Saturday reformatting every PC in my house (about 5-6). Sigh.
And I apologize, as I haven't signed up for the weekly lectures as I suggested I might. After some deliberation I decided against it in consideration of time constraints. Hope the program goes well (and I assume it would, given the comments from people that attended today).
-
You can still come to spesh and check it out! I guarantee you'll like the quiz. It's an extended response I dreamed up on orbital missile trajectories ;)
-
Sadly I ended up not coming. Apart from tomorrow's is there likely to be anymore of these free revision classes in future?
-
Yea, Id be interested aswell.
-
EDIT: An interesting observation: I saw only three non-asians. Two of them being enwiabe and kamil, the other being me.
white powar! :P
-
how many people turned out to each class?
i totally forgot it was on haha. too busy sorting out my bio vs. physics issues.
lol three non asians. very interesting observation :P
-
13 in Chem, 12 in Methods, I might be off by one or two.
And err...who was kamil?
-
And err...who was kamil?
There were 3 white guys and 1 white girl - kamil was the white guy that wasn't enwiabe or matty.
Highlight of the video: me dropping a thousand-dollar camera. Sigh. If you are coming today don't stand anywhere near the crazy camera lady or you may get hurt.
-

Watch out for the highly cringeworthy names used.

This program sounds cool as. I wish you guys were around when I was in year 12.

I attended the specialist class and it was very well conducted by Daniel. Thanks for the good session and the good notes.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. My only fear is, was my handwriting too much of a problem? :P I think it got better towards the end as I got used to writing on a whiteboard, but I know it was quite awful at the start. Also, what did you make of the quiz?
-
Also, re: everyone wanting notes. We're cutting together the videos of the classes. Some of them turned out a lot better than others (we might have to not upload one because a certain unnamed person *cough* me *cough* stood in front of the camera the whole time and blocked the whiteboard :P)
All the notes will be going up in the next few days, though.
-
Your handwriting was quite shocking, though it was legible. Probably because you had to write on the whiteboard.
Oh, I never got my pen license either. :P
The quiz was very original, SPOILER: I didn't want the VCAAliens to escape though :(
It was annoying how you made two graphs on the one plane, with no scale given either. The second part ended up two thirds up the page.
Also, the Specialist notes were by far the most comprehensive of the ones I've seen. No offence intended Mao your notes were great, it's probably just because it's maths :P
Is beige the best color to hide text in a post?
-
Also, re: everyone wanting notes. We're cutting together the videos of the classes.
I am looking forward to seeing the videos :D
