Title: Undergraduate Orientation 2010
Post by: Gloamglozer on February 06, 2010, 11:35:01 am
The program for orientation week (22nd Feb to 26th Feb) is now available on soft copy here.

I know that the staff said that they will mail it out to us, but just in case, here it is.  :)

Also, if you want to create your own itinerary, click here.

EDIT:  I should point out that if you want to create an itinerary for Orientation, then you will have to do so from February 8.

Also, to find out which host group you are in, you can visit this page from February 10.

Collected so much stuff last year and ended up throwing out half of them at the end of the year.

Note to self: Only take stuff that I will actually use =/

Oh, and if any Science dudes want to ditch their host groups and join mine, let me know ;)

I got it too so I guess every first year should have got it today.  Mine came with a letter, the guide and a starter's guide.

13 days for us but 12 days for VCA students.

Of which there are probably none in this forum. So what's with these course and subject orientation sessions? What do they tell you in that and are they necessary to attend?

EDIT: Isn't it VCAM now? Please don't hurt me

Also [My Theory] The reason why VCAM students don't use VN is because they usually get into their course by interview, portfolio, audition, etc. [/My Theory]

As for the sessions, they aren't really necessary to attend, but you get to try and find your way around the uni and make friends.

Technically, yes it is VCAM because it says, "Faculty of the VCA and Music students".

Those just tell you what to expect from the subjects and the books to get...

Hmmm, well correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what the info day on the 27th was for? I'm just wondering mostly about the subject sessions (of course, I'll go to the course session..and the lunch haha) and if they're useful, because if they're not I'd rather be out there meeting people than just sitting and listening in a lecture theater.

They'll just show you around uni, plus hold a getting to know you session between other group members. It only goes for a few hours.

In every tutorial?!  I have the temptation to change my name in every tutorial now, even though it's not possible.

Depends on the type of tutor, most of the student tutors will do it, the older ones will normally ask if anyone wants to introduce themselves and if not, move on.

I hate ice breakers, especially the grid game where you have to find 'someone with red hair' or 'someone who owns a dog'. I had to do that in Biology of Cells and Organisms.

If your raw scores for one of those English subjects were in those ranges, then yes.  But the faculty of science should have contacted you about it.

is there a penalty if u dont attend the orientation day on tuesday?
Title: Re: Undergraduate Orientation 2010
Post by: Gloamglozer on February 22, 2010, 10:00:10 pm
is there a penalty if u dont attend the orientation day on tuesday?

The penalties are:

1.  You won't get a guided tour of UoM's Parkville campus
2.  You won't get the opportunity to meet other people doing the same course as you before Week 1 begins
3.  You won't get insight into life at uni from an older student

If those 3 things aren't important, then wag it.  :P

Some bits of sarcasm was intended in this post, especially the sentence above this.  In reality, no real penalties apply.

EDIT:  But otherwise, yes, I would highly recommend you attend.
