we are still halfway through chapter 2. and everyone is freaking out that were not gonna get the course finished.... (we have a new teacher, and he is really slow), so i was jsut wondering where everyone else was up to???

Uhm, we skipped chapters 1 and 2, did chapter three, and basically skipped chapter 4(only did one worksheet on it because its basically revision of year11). So yeah, we're starting chapter 5 on Monday.

Also, if near the end of the year, if you feel like you're running out of time you can learn independently, and the people here would be more than happy to explain everything :)
I remember last year, physics unit 3 we were really behind so I learnt the second two areas of study by myself. We ended up having to completely rush the last one so a lot of people were like o_O? and we finished a week before the exam and the only people who were on top of things was me and the people who think they're so special with their tutors for every subject.
And off the top of my head, if by say mid term 2 you haven't started calculus your class is going too slow.

A tutor might also be of benifit if you think you arn't going to finish the course.

Instead of relying on us (of course you can, but it's only a safety net), you should begin working at a faster pace than your class. This year I've had a lot of surprisingly motivated students who have gotten me to complete all of Unit 3 with them already (for Physics and Chemistry).
