I'm currently on the hunt for University books on the Textbook exchange website.. obviously because it's cheaper than advertised on the melbourne uni booklist. Some of the books that i have come across on this website is different edition to the ones recommended on the uni book list. I'm planning to ask the lecturer during orientation week, however i was just wondering whether the edition of the books differing has any effect on My LEARNING LOL !!
-
LOL.
Different edition of the same book shouldn't effect your learning at all.
Im planning to buy older editions for some of my books this year because Im poor :(
-
Textbooks are usually used just for reference. You may find that you don't even use your textbook at all.

Edition shouldn't matter too much. For your first semester I know you should buy the finance 1 and physics textbook. Lol the physics textbook is one I WANT to keep.

Textbook writers often produce new editions without much new stuff just so people have to buy it.

I might be able to sell you Biology 3e (I kept it in great condition, no scratches), 4th edition is out this year but is only slightly updated with the latest biological discoveries :P
Buy the Chem Shrinkwrap pack asap, it gets sold out in two days or so

What book do you purchase for Physics 2 : Life Science and Environment ?? its not listed on the booklist !!!!
-
Prescribed Texts: R Knight, B Jones and S Field, College Physics: A Strategic Approach, Addison-Wesley, 2007.

What I've done is I've tried to look for ebooks for the books, since they're mainly reference points anyway, so I could just keep them on my laptop to refer to them. I've found 3/5 of what I need (one of which is older edition, other two are current).

Yeah, that books the one
-
11. What is the text book?
Physics 1 and Physics 2: Physical Science & Technology, and Physics 1 and 2 (Advanced):
Knight, R Physics for Scientists and Engineers: A Strategic Approach with Modern Physics (2nd edition, Addison-Wesley, 2008)
Physics 1: Fundamentals, Physics 2: Life & Environmental Sciences and Physics for Biomedicine:
Knight, R, Jones, B, and Field, S College Physics: A Strategic Approach (Addison-Wesley, 2007).
When you buy these books from the University of Melbourne Bookshop they will be packaged with access to Mastering Physics online resources and the e-book for both books (ie. the whole book online), so there will be no need to buy a different book if you change Physics subject streams in semester 2.

Ohhh Thanks.. !!
So do you think it was a mistake buying the book online ?? Is that why melb uni books are so expensive ... because of the xtras?
-
Not really. From what I've heard from some people, it's not that useful the extras they give. Rather save the money.
