Title: Transfer to Law

Ok, so I know its early in the year but I want to set up my plan....

The lowest score to get into Monash Law in 2009 was 99.35, which I won't get.. I calculated it and with my Indo score it makes it impossible...

What I would like to know is if I can get into Business(Law) can I then transfer after a year???

If it's any consolation most of the double degrees involving law "only" need around 98.15 to 98.35...

Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Laws

What do you mean by Business(Law)? Do you mean a double degree or is there a degree called business law?

You can transfer into law after a year with at least a distinction average (that's the threshold they have) but in reality it'll need to be probably borderline high distinction, because there's a lot of competition for transfer spots.

Oh I see... Do you want to do just straight law, or something like business/law or commerce/law?

There's no such double degree as Business(Law)/Law, so I guess you'd still be able to transfer if your grades were good enough, but I'm not sure if any of the subjects you've done would count for credit (that is, you'd have to start over again from first year).

This is because law subjects run by the law faculty go into a lot more depth than law subjects run by the business faculty, and because you can't receive a law degree without having at least done the core subjects.

Best thing you can do is to contact the law faculty and ask them:

I've been to the law building before, I think it looks quite nice compared to some of the other ones there....

 :'( I was hoping I wouldn't waste a year of uni thats all


Oh and I don't mind if I do a double degree with something else... just as long as I do law

If you don't want to waste a year, these are the double degrees which currently exist:

Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Performing Arts and Bachelor of Laws
Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws

Pick one you're interested in and do the non-law degree.

For example, you could
The subjects you did in your first year would then not go to waste - you'd technically become a second year business student but first year law.

Most people transfer into law via that route if they didn't get a high enough ENTER, because you don't waste a year that way.

Don't mean to be nasty, but why do you think law is the career for you, given that you don't rate your English skills highly (study score of 25 predicted)?

I only changed it to 25 because I was shocked when I started yr12... I've underestimated my abilities in English. I believe I am capable of getting a 40 in English...

I will probs raise my predictions throughout the year

lol its only 25 because his english teacher is surpassingly harsh. she is however the best english teacher in his entire school and with her teaching andy456 will get most likely get high 30's - mid 40's

mid 40's may be exaggerating it a little bit

Law requires at least a 30 in English (and from my experience I think you'd need minimum 35, or at least be at that standard, to be able to pass)
