Title: Considering alternative viewpoints - HELP
Post by: ZachCharge on February 23, 2010, 07:01:52 pm
AKA a review of a review.

Hail,

Well, I just found out my first Lit SAC is next week, a review of a review. My teachers plan is to do a practice one throughout the next few lessons and next Thursday do the SAC. However, not doing Lit 1+2  and only have written my first proper movie review a few days ago, I don't feel confident enough. Anyone have any tips on how I should write this, or any well graded examples, or even an online guide ( :D)? I might try a practice one tonight just to get the hang of it.

Thanks

Hey ZC,

As you said, it is a review of a review. Basically in this piece of writing you want to explore the viewpoints and assumptions of the reviewer on themes or issues in the text you have studied. You can see their viewpoints through the type of language they use (is it harsh, humored etc). From memory, you then compare the reviewers viewpoint to your own and comment on this. If you like i can pm you a high scoring example from a past member?

If anyone would like a copy of the high scoring response just ask here or pm me. It is from a past member and I'm not sure whether they would want it published for everyone to see. So just ask me and I'll send you a copy to be on the safe side :)

I can give you a copy of my response which scored an A+ on our grading system, HOWEVER, it does not flow entirely because I did an ORAL PRESENTATION and I can assume you are doing an essay?
So they're two different textual forms, but it could still be of use to you as I review the review.
Basically, you must do just that, while looking what whether or not you agree with what the reviewer is saying and why/why not or providing a different idea or theory in response to what a reviewer may have said.  We contrasted two different reviews in ours actually.
So we juggled three texts; two reviews which were contrasted and then the original text.
